Taking inspiration from the "what game did you last play?" thread, what book did you last read?

I've been on a mission since the last week of May 2024 to read one book a week. I'm currently reading book 5 of Steven King's Dark Tower series; The Wolves of Calla. These books a 800+ pages so I've dipped behind my target but with a tactful couple of 300 pages books I'll be on my target to read one book a week for a whole year by the end of May.

This year I've read the entire Harlan Coben bibliography which itself is about 40 books. Then a couple of other crime thriller books and now onto the Dark Tower series.

Finished reading Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms last wednesday. No spoilers, but its definitely a much sadder novel than I expected. Starter reading Thomas Pynchon's Vineland, and I'd say its pretty good so far. Hoping to get a lot of books in during the summer.

Can't remember the last book i've read but I have a few books sitting on my shelf right now that I plan on picking up soon. "A Short History of Nearly Everything", another one called "Dark Matter" and "The Shining".

    Great thread

I’m sure you can all already tell by my superior intellect, but I don’t read books.

I always wait for the movie tbh lol

Don't have the patience to read a book, not fictional anyway.

I do however like the Harlan Coben series on Netflix and watch all of them @icecube

The netflix adaptions are what made me want to read his books. The books are always sooooo much better than the film/TV show so thought 'why not".

Plus the kids are older now so I get more time to concentrate.

Reading Umberto Eco’s The Name of the Rose right now. Gf got me his The Island of the Day Before and I loved it so it made sense to check Eco’s most famous release next.

Not sure if anybody else here has read a Pynchon book, but he's dropping his first novel in 12 years and I'm beyond excited. This'll be the first time that I'm able to read one of his books when they're brand new, and I can't wait for October to get here.

Has anybody here read any Dostoyevsky? I loved Notes from Underground and Crime & Punishment but I was lukewarm on The Idiot. Started off great, but it lost a lot of steam. White Nights got really popular with zoomers for some reason, so I might check that one out since its pretty short.

Bumping this thread to say that I read Gravity’s Rainbow over the summer, and it’s probably my favorite book of all time now. Not sure if I’d recommend it due to the denseness, but I loved it personally.

Dr. Robert Lustig's Metabolical. It convinced me to cut my added sugar intake to close to zero and avoid ultra processed "food" (estimated to make up 62-73% of food in grocery stores) completely. By a country mile the best decision I've made in my life.
