Feb 21, 2016 We love classic Em but we s--- on current Em, so this thread is gonna be the opposite where we instead give modern Eminem some praise and classic Eminem some criticism. I like both eras of Eminem, but both eras do have pros and cons that often do get missed. If you don't know, modern Eminem would probably be considered Relapse to present, whereas classic Em would probably be from 1999 - 2004 (or 1996 and even earlier for some, and 2007 - 2008 for a few too) so here we go. Praise: His lyricism is amazing, an in some aspects even better than ever. Eminem shows that he can still come with creative lyrics, and considering the fact he has been rapping for 20+ years (If we consider his work with the New Jacks in 1988, that's 28 years) that is great. Criticism: f--- Off, from Kid Rock's 1998 album Devil Without A Cause. This is one of the few early Em songs that we can all agree is just not good, and it's more or less Kid Rock's fault. Still, Em is on the song, and his verse is okay, but not good enough to save this track. The amount of reused verses and freestyles from this era. There are plenty of examples of Em using taking lines from freestyles he already did and using them again. Most of SSLP is actually freestyled when you think about it. I understand it always isn't easy to freestyle, but even with that, Em reused the h--- out of some freestyles, especially Bad Influence's second verse and that 3 Verses track. The freestyles themselves, are pretty dope though, I won't lie. Basically this. I know for the majority of you it's very easy to rattle off why Em from 1999 - 2003 is perfect and a GOAT and why his music today is terrible, but let's take this time to do the opposite, because both eras have great and not so great moments that don't get acknowledged too often.
