Does influence equal talent?

    I often here people use influence as a point to prove an artist is good etc. Does it necessarily indicate an artist is good? Does other people doing what one does automatically equal greatness?

    I mean people say Soulja Boy influenced whatever (I honestly don't know) but I think he is and always will be garbage. So if garbage creates more garbage how can that me good?

    Yes, you created a sound or did something that changed the way other artists after you went about their work. That's pretty impressive, and Soulja may look that hot in 2017 but you can't deny he's a legend if you look back at what he achieved at such a young age no matter if u f----- with his music or not.

    What my point is: I feel like people use influence as a defense for a lot of artists when their talent is questioned and I'm asking if it is as concrete fact as people make out.

    influence is the only objective measure for an artist

    lack of "skill" can be an art direction in itself, ala punk, yachty, etc.

    Yeh thats kinda my point. If were talkin about a single artist's music I don't get the relevance of their "influence"
