Apr 3, 2017 Do you agree that,in this case hip hop genre, an artist is a real artist and a legend if he maintains his musical career for over 10+ years? I always thought that when an artist has had a long career then he is a true legend. Would you call a rapper a legend if he pulled a classic album but wasn't that long in musical spotlight? In my opinion, I simply wouldn't call him a legend. He pulled a great album or two but to be one of true greats you simply have to be focused on music and rejuvenating their music and sound.
Apr 3, 2017 This is a weird question cuz rappers like Biggie and Pac could've regressed later in their careers, similar to Eminem. I've seen arguments made where people have said "if 'x' rapper died after 'y' album, they'd be the greatest ever." and s--- like that I think consistency is a huge factor
Apr 3, 2017 I am not including them because they were murdered of course they are the greats lol I'm talking about rappers that are still alive
Apr 3, 2017 I think its the same thing as in movie or sports arguments. "If" doesn't matter. What matters is what we have, not what we may have had or what might have happened.
Apr 3, 2017 There's quite a few artists that have 10+ years in music. It's gonna take more than just longevity to be considered one of the greats.
Apr 3, 2017 how is quality not subjective ? if A thinks views is better than illmatic and B thinks the other way , does it mean A is wrong cuz more ppl agree with B ? you cant measure this , inb4 u say its taste
Apr 3, 2017 if you had this comparison why didn't you put more life cause more life> views lol and person A is wrong because Views isn't good. Just ask me which album is a classic I know everything brother .
Apr 3, 2017 True, imagine if Em would've died after The Eminem Show, you wouldn't have all this haterz today however, he is still up there high!
Apr 3, 2017 he would still have haters. There are people who claim he doesn't have a single classic album and that he is not amongst the greats.
Apr 3, 2017 music is about people that like it , as long as you keep your fans happy you're one of the best to them and they will consider it of high quality and they will go on and buy ur s--- etc
Apr 3, 2017 you said fans and not stans, I think that's important. Stan can consider his favorite artist's music trash because he is subjective though
Apr 3, 2017 Yea idk about length of career, but name choice is a definite factor when measuring success, imo. Like rappers with GOAT names (Travis Scott, Quavo, Young Scooter, etc) are destined to be legends with names like those. Meanwhile, other rappers that are still pretty good set themselves up for failure by choosing terrible names (J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, etc.)
