Dec 16, 2017 To start all of this off.. OCTOBER 19th 2016 Spoiler: Campaign Speech The date is October 19th and Eminem has been unexistent throughout the entire year minus one throwaway Skylar Grey feature. Eminem out of nowhere confirms that he is working on a new album and releases a acapella freestyle titled "Campaign Speech" the song is literally Eminem having a syllable d-ck measuring contest with himself and purely released this to show everyone that he can rhyme weird words together. The internet took notice cos of some Donald Trump lines but as a song it lacked any value whatsoever due to it not having a real beat or direction.. Its trash as a song but it's okay if you love this stupid lyrical miracle s---. EMINEM THEN DISAPPEARS FOR MONTHS AFTER GETTING A SMALL NUMBER OF PEOPLES ATTENTION AGAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2013 OCTOBER 10th 2017 DJ Khaled was the first to break the news.. Eminem is returning at the BET awards. Eyes were suddenly drawn to the event as fans wondered if the rumoured Eminem album would be announced during the show like how he has announced albums in the past at events (MMLP2 at the EMA's for example) Spoiler: BET CYPHER Eminem drops another Accapella freestyle but this time he sets the entire world abuzz as he unleashes a tirade against the President himself Donald Trump. It is an understatement to say that Eminem caught the eye of everyone within the next 2-3 days. The video itself was shared over social media millions of times and the YouTube video of the cypher was trending #1 for at least 3 days straight. Eminem caused so much controversy it felt like 2002 all over again, not just the media industry but news broadcasts picked up on this and began to talk about the freestyle. A Harvard lecturer even commented saying that it would go down as an important piece of history... Eminem's name was seemingly back in everyone's mouths once again BUT| during the freestyle, Eminem made sure to let fans know that if you are a supporter of Trump he no longer wants you to support him. Eminem ended his attack on Donald Trump by simply stating "We Love our country... But we f---ing hate TRUMP !!" MISTAKE #1 Instead of following up the attention that Eminem had garnered the smart folks at Shady Records let the hype die down and seemingly pass without any mention of a potential album. There was 0 indication that Marshall was even releasing an album bar some 2 Chainz interviews and the tweet a year beforehand. This freestyle was the first thing that made Eminem relevant in at least 4 years, people were beginning to talk about him and all eyes were on Marshall to see what his next move would be. OCTOBER 25th 2017 (THE START OF REVIVAL) Paul Rosenberg posts an Instagram photo promoting Yelawolf's album but in the background fans notice a strange add called REVIVAL. Nobody has a clue what this is and searching for it on the internet to discover the website ASKABOUTREVIVAL. This website was a mindfuck and it seemed that Shady records are attempting to play a game with the fans. REVIVAL had its own hotline and spokesperson named Trevor. REVIVAL never once labelled itself an Eminem album which brought more intrigue to it as fans didn't have a clue what was really happening. REVIVAL merchandise and pop-up booths began to appear at places such as Complex Con and although fans knew it was associated with Eminem they weren't given confirmation which almost added mystique to the project. With it not being a direct sequel to any of his albums fans were intrigued what direction Eminem would go in as we haven't heard a fresh Eminem sound/direction since 2010. Allowing the REVIVAL concept to breath only added to anticipation as fans wondered what type of content would come from Eminem.. 10th NOVEMBER 2017 Eminem tweets this .. Bearing in mind a full month has gone since The Storm (Freestyle) and the hype surrounding Eminem has once again dwindled. Eminem tweets a picture with the song title "Walk on Water", This is the first time that Eminem himself acknowledges the REVIVAL campaign which instantly confirms that it's an album to fans who were still sceptical (you know who you are) On the 10th November Eminem released one of the most vulnerable songs he's recorded in recent years featuring Beyonce. Walk on Water was officially released and labelled the "Lead single" of Eminem's upcoming album Revival by various websites such as Eminem.com. This is where the next mistake was made, the song released to the general public to learn of the direction of Revival wasnt really a song at all. Yes it features a chorus, a beat and verses (first time in a years we have heard an actual Em song) But it was more of a letter to Eminems real fans 'stans' as an apology but also serves as an insight to the psyche of Eminem. This was strange for Eminem since ALL of his previous lead singles for albums always featured some type of anthemic chorus that gets major radio plays. MISTAKE #2 Did Shady release this with the intentions of getting attention because truth be told, many didnt care that this song was released and even the Beyonce stimulus wasn't enough to make the song a hit. It lacks everything to be a hit even with the names attached to it. Am I saying Walk on Water is a bad song? no. It is not lead single material at all and anyone with a brain could tell you this, there are two scenarios here 1. Marshall doesnt care 2. Paul is stupid The latter is definitely more believable because up to this point the failure to capitalise on any hype really has this album already down in the dumps commercial wise. Paul really believes that Eminem can sell by name alone in 2017 especially after alienating half of his fanbase during the storm. f---ing idiot.. MISTAKE #3 & #4 This video was posted by Eminem twitter account and actually makes me facepalm. In the video Trevor the spokesperson for Revival makes the 'shocking' announcement that Revival isnt the medication it was promoted as but instead it's Eminems album.... (we never saw that coming) !. The sheer awkwardness of this video and the message literally shows how out of touch Shady really is. The reveal itself isnt bad and would have worked if this was the next thing released after Pauls IG photo but it took over a month to "confirm" the existence of the Revival album EVEN THOUGH Walk on Water did this weeks before by being marketed as Eminems first single of his upcoming LP Revival. WHERE DOES THIS MAKE SENSE? The next mistake comes in just over a week later with the release of Untouchable. Before anyone cries that i've called this a mistake, it's not because the song sucks (its divided for fans) but because just like walk on water it has 0 business being a lead single. The message within the song is powerful and people may not admit it but it's one of Eminem's most aware songs in recent memory. Lets start by the sound.. It's not radio friendly at all and as a business especially a record label who have a proven tracklist of securing high sales it really confuses me why this was even considered to be a single. There are so many other songs on the tape that could have been the single. Why is Em and shady trying so hard to tarnish any possible commercial interest int he album? Do they really believe a 6-minute song that has 0 replay value can dominate the charts or even peep into the mainstream the same way The Storm did. MISTAKE #5 REVIVAL WAS RELEASED EVENTUALLY 2 MONTHS AFTER EMINEMS MOST RELEVANT TIME IN RECENT MEMORY WITH 0 MUSIC Videos AND COMMERCIALLY VIABLE LEAD SINGLES. (you can argue they dont care but why go to the lengths they did in the first place to promote a drug campaign) It is here where Revival has failed, it never capitalised of Eminems initial return hype and instead squandered so many chances such as the BET awards, SNL and the AMA's to promote revival but instead they allowed Em to perform Walk on Water along with old ballads such as Stan and LTWYL to atleast get fans to sing along with. Shady has dropped the ball by this release by making every media appearance be about Eminems old songs and not mention Revival once. They do not need a blistering promotional campaign to make people excited for an Em album but they need a campaign that can atleast draw the attention of the casual viewer. I think the realisation of no-hype has forced Paul to put River out as a single and due to Ed Sheerans drawing power it will do well on the charts but the fact Eminem has to rely on others for relevancy is tragic considering he was a walking headline for over 10 years. 300k is projected to be Revivals first week sales, comparing this to any of his previous albums shows the decline in attention Em has recieved Eminem's google trend since Relapse. Look at the huge decline from Recovery to MMLP2 all the way to Revival... The fact is his interest declined from October to December this year which is terrible as December is the month he released the album not October. THE BIGGEST MISTAKE... Paul Rosenberg @EminemSXN do you agree?
Dec 16, 2017 Or you know we could have just viewed the revival thread and read the first post to sum it up that it was a mess.
Dec 16, 2017 Mistake #5. Having Paul Rosenberg as your manger Ever since he took over from Interscope in 09 Eminem's promo has been terrible despite Recovery doing great. The first 3 albums were handled by Jimmy Iovine. Paul took over in 09.
Dec 16, 2017 I didnt even know this.. the thing is his old promotion wasnt even outstanding cos Em himself was the promotion.
Dec 16, 2017 its true. Remember reading years ago in a billboard interview with Jimmy Iovine. Cant find the source right now.
Dec 16, 2017 Also Em isnt at wrong for this, he's the puppet who just makes music. THey have both basically admitted it's all Pauls go ahead on what we hear
Dec 16, 2017 unless bad publicity is publicity in the end, then this is just an intro to a better album next year jk
Dec 16, 2017 It's a throwaway album is the only explanation that makes sense. This one's the revival of himself back to relevancy for the real proper one that is coming fall 2018 which will include the 2 Dr Dre tracks already recorded.
