Jul 16, 2020 My Mrs misses her family so much because of this stupid lockdown. Now travel restrictions are slowly being lifted she has said she is going to take the kids to her parents in Poland for at least a month. First things first, I'll be living like a bachelor for a whole month! But, on a slightly more grown up note. I'm going to take a week off work, travel through Europe for 4nts by train to go to hers, then spend 4 nights there and then fly back. I'm thinking: London>Amsterdam. Direct route. About 4hrs on the Eurostar. Overnight in Amsterdam. Amsterdam>Berlin. Direct or 1 change at Hanover. About 6hrs. Overnight in Berlin. Berlin>The Mrs. That's the most direct route. Seems too quick tbh. I could drop down south a bit but it's still going to be Germany. Or spend more time in Amsterdam. Has anyone had any experience of this kind of thing? @Michael Myers any suggestions on direct routes from Amsterdam? About 4hrs so I've got enough time to enjoy where I end up. Either going by myself or with my brother.
Jul 16, 2020 From Amsterdam you can go anywhere... it depends on what u lookin for. U go w train from ams to berlin? Ur pretty close to my 'state' as well lmao
Jul 16, 2020 Stay safe out there. Don't let them catch you with the wrong color mask in the wrong hood. But seriously, Amsterdam & Berlin sound like good choices. Been at both.
Jul 16, 2020 We don't have to wear face masks here lol (just public transportation) We just keep distance and dont do stupid s--- that needs face masks and causes mass infections.
Jul 16, 2020 Weren't they planning on making it obligatory to wear masks in shops? Not in coffeeshops of course for obvious reasons.
Jul 16, 2020 Nah thats germany. We had to wear masks in public transport since june because people cried about it. To me it seems like people just use masks as an excuse to do s--- like trump rallies, rioting and other s--- and say 'but but we wear masks so its all good'.. just like @Australia said We dont use masks and we have like 15 deaths average -in a week..- just use common sense, stay at home when u feel sick , wash ur hands, keep distance and avoid big crowds (mask or not).
Jul 16, 2020 Looking for as direct as possible, 4-6 hour journey. Maybe one change. Need to end up near Szczecin in Poland so can't go too far south. Big city to to make the most use of time. I'll prob grab an hour or 2 power nap on the train. Need to jump off the train, into a hotel and then minutes away from bars/restaurants and a bit of sightseeing. Any suggestions? Beer??
Jul 16, 2020 Fair enough. I'm from Antwerp/Belgium and we have to wear them like almost everywhere now. I don't mind too much tbh, aside from messing up my beautiful beard it's not that big of a hassle. Frankly we called it upon ourselves since nobody was actually following the guidelines. As soon as the sun came out, the crowds came out as well.
Jul 16, 2020 That sounds like a lot of fun man! I’ve always wanted to go through Europe by train. Some of the countryside areas are absolutely beautiful. You should take some pics and post them itt.
Jul 16, 2020 Well from amsterdam basically everything is 'close' since holland isn't that big. Amsterdam itself is pretty big and great obviously. But what ur describing Utrecht is a nice city. Its kinda in the center -not too much south or north- and public transport is great, u can get anywhere. Lots of cool bars and the city is nice as well. If ur more into nature etc the south (Valkenburg/Maastricht) is very nice, you got mines etc there u can get a tour. And of course the coast , close to amsterdam (Scheveningen). There really is a lot depending on what ur lookin for. Sure if ur close !
Jul 16, 2020 Things got a bit better since then. But no family is meant to spend this much time together in such close confines. Biggest thing that helped was me getting a PT job whilst I'm off work. Anyway, I'm obviously very much looking forward to living the bachelor life for month! And looking forward to travelling and surprising the Mrs when I turn up!
Jul 16, 2020 Took a train from Switzerland to Paris several years back. It was chill but we had to get up so d--- early for the train. Like 4 in the morning & it was freezing in Switzerland.
Jul 17, 2020 It's kind of blown my mind how quickly Bruges center became busy again and not just with locals but tourists. I've been seeing so many people with big paper maps out. Hearing through the grapevine that Flanders might be pushing some more lockdowns again so well see how that goes...
Jul 17, 2020 I'd love to do Europe by train some day. USA has the road trip, Europe has the train trip.
Jul 17, 2020 Ow yea that's definitely happening. We're going triple digits again with daily infections. *Drake's 0 to 100 playing in the background*
