Looking for any and all recommendations, whether they be (auto)biographies, books of essays, histories, etc.

My friend recently got me this book and it's shaping up to be one of my favorite books I've ever read. They're extremely thoughtful essays about music that end up somewhat telling a memoir of the author's life of sorts.

Shea Serrano's The Rap Yearbook is also phenomenal. While it takes the form of a list of the most important rap song each year, it's really a hilarious, informative, and easily digestible overall history of hip-hop.

I'm also looking into reading this soon:

Sorry for the size (on mobile), but it's part thesis & part autobiography coming from someone that practically touched d--- near every genre during his career, it's filled with insightful viewpoints on multiple forms of music (or as Byrne says uniformed sounds) and interesting quirks.

HAHAHA no way I legit just came into this thread to post this. Great book though.

Also can we talk about how no one on this site has the balls to actually mention me? :currydead: Y'all are scared. I have to actually read through everything to see if I'm mentioned.

My friend has that rap year book he was showing it to me the other day. The only books I've ever really read about music are Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis and some book my uncle wrote about The Beatles
