Daaammmm this was a heavy nostalgia trip back to the late 90s early 2000s. Thanks for posting this!

As a longtime Canibus fan i found that to be disrespectful drivel and the playlist at the end is a joke. The lack of praise for Rip The Jacker is nonsense

Why do modern Hip Hop writers point to homophobia and sexism like it was a problem back then? In ‘98, a lot of people didn’t care. Can-I-Bus flopped honestly because of Clef’s production. His beats didn’t match Canibus. Even with all the nerd s---, Canibus was still a s--- talking MC, which at that time was good enough for decent sales. He had features, hype, co-signs. The dude even got smoked LL, a legendary rapper who still active. Clef dropped the ball.

Also, I co-sign Canibus and Stoupe’s Rip The Jacker as being his best project.

Amazing read. I thoroughly enjoyed that.

I was a huge Canibus stan back in the day. His first album wasn't great (even though Second Round KO is an all time classic diss). His second album 2000 BC was a huge improvement, more like what his debut should have sounded like imo. Pity by that stage people had already lost interest.

Rip the Jacker is by far his best work, it was produced entirely by Stoupe of Jedi Mind Tricks, it was a very different turn to his usual production and suited him far better. @Zeugma you should definitely check Rip the Jacker (and 2000 BC if you wanna hear more).

listened to it twice already and it's great! Haven't really looked into the lyrics that much, but the atmosphere and the production are on par with Jedi Mind Tricks' best work tbh

It was p much just 100 bars over and over which I appreciated. He goes further out of his comfort zone on Rip The Jacker and Stoupe's production is excellent though.

Let us not forget The Hrsmn either. Some serious highlights on there.

Some other big collabs that weren't on albums:

d---, I havent heard that Hrsmn EP in like 15 years. They had some decent hype around them at the time. Back before Slaughterhouse ruined supergroups.

I'd argue Child Rebel Soldier and All City Chess Club also helped the idea of supergroups go sour. They didn't even have to put out s--- albums to do it either!
