Mar 4, 2016 Purple reign... just sounded like a bunch of monster leftovers and the DJ tags were horrendously mixed. When i heard he was dropping a new 'album' i was really excited, but that wasn't any different. Sure they weren't bad but with an artist of Futures caliber i expect some innovation and creativity with new releases not just the same old stuff, like from monster to DS2 there was a pretty noticeable change in production and flow. I also blame metro, he use to be my favorite producer by a mile, no one was as creative and original as the dude with production, before purple reign dropped i never went "meh" to a metro beat, now i feel a lot of his production is boring and dull. Even on low life, the beat was dope but it didn't feel like a metro beat. Also ever since future was such an a------ in that Clique interview right before DS2 dropped I have changed my opinions on him as a rap icon, he basically said in that interview that he doesn't care about lyrics and ultimately gave off the impression that he doesn't give a f--- about making music, it's just something that brings money in. I miss feeling that wisdom and that drive behind Futures songs circa Monster. Does anyone else feel the same? other than me it seems whenever people are asked they're opinion on Evol and purple reign they love them, but there really not talked about much and the buzz around the releases were minimal. Anyone else think that futures legendary 'peat' is coming to an end?
Mar 4, 2016 you're not alone/i agree with a lot of this. including that future came off pretty weird in the clique interview. but i wouldnt doubt his passion for music -- this is his entire life. and he's still the same guy who made News or Somthn. the problem is he's getting rid of his vault rn i think..its the same thing thug did with SS1 and 2 but, no offense, his throwaways arent as good as thugs lol. we need a 2016 future project.
Mar 4, 2016 the fact he released EVOL as an studio album annoys the f--- outof me though its so painfully painful
Mar 4, 2016 I really hope this is the case. Like I (and many) have been saying, I wanna see him release an album that sounds like Percocet & Strippers Joint. Something more mellow, but still dark and brooding. Yeah I honestly don't really like EVOL at all other than a few songs. The name is so cringe too.
Mar 4, 2016 evol is a weird case man. like..pruple reign is more of the same but i like it a lot more than EVOL at this point. EVOL was intriguing out the gate for one reason -- future finalyl switched up his delivery consistently for the first project in a whiiile. like, on every track on EVOL, he has at least one verse or moment where you're like "oh d--- he just did that, that's fire" ...but in the end it doesnt add up to many songs that'll stand the test of time. so many moments throughout EVOL i like: 2nd verse of in her mouth hook for maybach lil haiti baby aesthetic for xanny family parts of 7 rings/program/photo copied etc. but as a whole its his worst project in a while.
Mar 4, 2016 I haven't really been able to pin what's wrong with EVOL but I think you nailed it. The whole is not greater than the sum of its parts, and even though there are some great moments, the pieces just don't fit together like his past two years worth of work. Purple Reign is leaps and bounds better than EVOL.
Mar 4, 2016 Future was my most played artist of 2015. Think I've listened to Purple Reign and Evol maybe twice each
Mar 4, 2016 law of diminishing returns eventually gets to a guy who releases music like he does. his streak was over 2 projects ago.
Mar 4, 2016 Tbh all he needs to do is just take 3-4 months away from releasing anything and evolve his style more and come back with a 2016 future b-----r
Mar 4, 2016 its just weird to me because it seems almost like a purposeful Frankenstein monster stitched together or whatever exciting 8-12 bars they could spare for each track...if that makes sense
