Unbelievable! A "trusted and respected major news outlet" threatening to reveal personal information of a reddit user? That s--- isn't even allowed on this hip-hop forum, but it's allowed by the media who I assume most would agree, we have higher expectations for?

They even have the audacity to threaten the man by saying they reserve the right to reveal his personal information, if they deem he says something they don't like.

This is the most disgusting Authoritarian 'justice into my own hands' s--- I have ever seen and it's clear the media wants an Orwellian dystopia.

There's nothing wrong with this lol. This is the press doing their job. The fact that you feel bad for some edgy troll on Reddit (hit too close to home?) says more about you lol

The media has the right to report on this story. They have the right to use his name. This is what freedom of the press is d-ck head. He's lucky CNN is sensoring his name, they didn't have to do that. I'm guessing he contacted them and they made some sort of agreement.

Publishing a name in itself is not doxing. If this person rescued someone from a fire and cnn published an article with the person's name, you wouldn't be bitching. The dude was a racist troll on Reddit who took credit for the meme the president tweeted out. What did he expect? For the media to not look into his other posts? Also, from what I read, CNN was only able to confirm his identity because he posted personal information on Reddit which CNN was then able to use to confirm his name. Totally his dumb a--- fault.

you f---ing idiot... They came across HanAssholeSolo on reddit, taking claim for creating the infamous trump meme. They then dug around to find his personal information, then called him threatening him to apologize or they'd release his name to the public. That IS doxing you r-----.

yeah cause 1. it's real news and 2. because they aren't trying to vilify that person, or threatening to reveal his personal information.

so a 15 yr old, who is probably poorly informed and just likes to have a laugh online, by posting edgy s--- (wow, who'd of thought teenagers are capable of such things?) anonymously, completely deserves to be called by a big corporation and threatened to apologize or have his info released publicly? mm yeah blackmail is not a crime and you're completely fine with a massive corporation bullying a 15 year old because of a "mistake" he made online one time?

There's been Trump memes everywhere (yes yes i know that trump didnt retweet them, f--- off) thousnads, tens of thousands, all similar to the infamous gif. but because trump retweeted that 15 yr olds tweet, that 15 yr old deserves to be doxxed, threatened and blackmailed by a news corporation?

Also, from what I read, his personal info was pretty hard to find and CNN would have had to do some morally questionable (though not illegal) things to obtain the info, without the help of the reddit mods.

btw I hope you get bullied IRL

15 or not your behavior online is a reflection of you and can at anytime be traced back to you. You choose to behave like a racist dickhead and you may get exposed for being a racist dickhead.

Heard it summarized perfectly: if you think this guy's name is newsworthy then publish it. If not, don't. But holding future behavior over his head is blackmail.

This isn't CNN's job, this isn't reporting the news.

This was likely at the request of the guy though. CNN didn't publish his name because he didn't want his name put out there. You guys are acting like not being a racist bigot online is so hard. All the guy has to do is stop trolling Reddit lol.

CNN is actually wrong for this tbh however online s--- talkers often times end up defending online s--- talkers. Main reason why Akademiks had people rush to his defense when Vic Mensa went at him on Everyday Struggle. On some "Oh s---...that could be me!" type s---.

Investigative journalism is a thing. They're not wrong at all. People are mad because they are "blackmailing" him with his name when this was probably worked out between both parties. I bet you the guy himself would tell you he prefers this than CNN publishing his name.

I mean I don't know, I've never been a racist troll even as a joke but I do have some pretty embarrassing tweets when I was 12 where I was pretty sure Obama was Osama :wow2:

lol everyone should be free to tweet whatever they want (to an extent)

But don't confuse anonymity with security. The only thin that protects you from being exposed is usually the fact that you are one of a billion or so internet users. Tweet something damning enough and you're identity will surely be exposed.
