Do your parents like Hip Hop?

    Do your parents/carers/guardians, or whoever brought you up, like Hip Hop music?

    Did they disapprove of you listening to it when you were younger? What was the reason? Maybe they could not get past the profanity, content and imagery associated with some forms of Hip Hop…

    Alternatively, were your parents/guardians the ones who introduced you to Hip Hop? How old were you and what artists did they introduce you to? Do you still listen to Hip Hop together with them?

    It would be cool to hear some of your experiences.

    For me, my Mum's never really understood it or liked it that much. There was maybe the odd song here or there that she would like on the radio but she was never head over heels for it. The only artist I know that she really liked was Lauryn Hill.

    She doesn't like the swearing and some of the content, which is understandable really, but she didn't ever really prevent me from listening to it. I think she kind of liked how enthusiastic I was about it when I was growing.

    Also, my Dad's never been a fan, but he's a bit more open minded and although he says he can never keep up with the lyrics he says that he appreciates it.

    My mom doesn't mind too much if I play it around the house. She likes a few songs, but not a fan of the genre.

    Mom likes it, dad hates it. Mom probably knows more Lil Wayne than I do tbh.

    My pops listens to 90% Latino music but he absolutely loves a lot of old school rap; Tribe, De La Soul, LL Cool J and DJ Quik are his favorites. He hasn't liked most rap in recent memory but he does ask me whats been going on in the genre lately. My mom doesn't like hip-hop but she did love The College Dropout.

    Show my mom Eminem all the time and she freaks out. She complains that he gives her headaches but she does say he has amazing talent
