Feb 7, 2015 Although I think BTI is his best album, without a doubt, I think my favorite Bino project would have to be the "EP" Short and endlessly entertaining. Freaks & Geeks is an undeniable classic, and the rest are just as, if not more, fun. He may try hard sometimes, he may be corny every now and then, but he's also charismatic, clever, and a kind of a personal role model of mine lmao (derrick comedy, 30 rock, community, music) If you choose anyhting besides BTI/EP/Camp you have bad tase, js
Feb 7, 2015 Do you think that the difference between Camp and Culdesac is that big @Narsh? Because I actually liked both these, I played Camp more though (had to check). Might revisit some of these projects in the next days, bumped Earth a few times earlier because of skippy's thread. BTI is my favourite: great production, some good tracks overall, and he is indeed funny in many occasions, but kinda awkward at times. Maybe it's like these jokes that go wrong or go unnoticed, idk. A good album in its own right, I think that if he focuses more and feels more comfortable, he can do better, but that mixtape (weren't STN MTN and Kauai one project?) wasn't a good follow up. It's great that he keeps being busy and does so many different things, he'll probably deliver even better work in the future. The EP was nice. It's the first project of his that I listened to, checked it out because I liked the cover lol.
Feb 7, 2015 Definitely. I think Culdesac and older projects really aren't that good. They have great tracks here and there but they're so rough around the edges and unrefined overall. The EP was the first real step in the right direction (Culdesac is better than IMNAR 1 & 2, etc tho). When do you think he's awkward? haha, serious question Yeah the mixtapes following BTI were a horrible choice. And BTI is very much a concept project, I'd really recommend looking it at as a whole -- with the script and everything else that came along with it it's worth it in my opinion
Feb 7, 2015 I first got into gambino after camp dropped and I loved it and played the s--- out of it. I wasn't really a fan of royality I probably created high expectations for it in my head that it couldn't meet, then I kinda stopped checking for him after that. I really enjoyed camp though. If anyone could point me in a direction of some dope s--- by him I would appreciate it.
Feb 7, 2015 Everything after Camp has just been unlistenable to me. He's pretentious, corny and trying way too hard; he wants to be seen as artistic, revolutionary and generally Kanye-like, but is neither lyrically or musically talented enough to pull it off. He's obviously a smart guy irl, but he needs to stop working under the assumption that different = automatically great.
Feb 7, 2015 I haven't listened to earlier stuff tbh, I kinda liked how raw Culdsac sounded. Like most of the times his singing sounds very good because he's clearly capable, right? and other times like in Crawl where he sings "at her boooooooty" I think it's just weird. I wouldn't want to start nitpicking lyrics because I think that the focus should be in other things, but there are moments like this that confuse me. Corny lines don't really matter that much because usually they're said in a more sardonic way, but they are there. It's more about moments like this though that are kinda awkward imo. Yes I've listened to it once while reading the script. The script is actually very good, it's some the lyrics that sometimes left me uninterested about the story, the vibe and the music's still cool though and it works together much better. I think I said this before, but I think that the album is a good one to just chill and listen to it without giving it much thought, but it has to be paired with the script to be better appreciated; it's not bad in its own, but I couldn't compare it to the better albums of that year. I think that a 6.5-7/10 would be fair.
Feb 7, 2015 ive never heard any of his songs before. recommend me some s--- to check out. EDIT: that song you posted "my shine" is f---ing dope. definitely gonna check out some of his s---
Feb 7, 2015 Yeah it's not bad, but it's hit or miss. I think it might be weird cause of a cultural disconnect. That lien is clearly not supposed to be good or anything, but it's still GOAT lmao - it's supposed to funny/corny. He used to be corny while actually trying in the past, but lines like that one are on purpose/self-aware. Yeah you might just be missing some of the context for things you consider corny. Like some of the moments that might seem odd to you, would make perfect sense for a longtime fan of Bino I guess I just enjoyed the actual music more than most. It was definitely one of my favorites of that year, and it was actually a GREAT year for music.
Feb 7, 2015 EP is definitely my favorite. hate that it's so short but every track is as good as a gambino song you're ever gonna get back to back to back to back. might prefer camp a bit to because the internet. prolly just for nostalgic purposes but I really love the genuine feel the album gives off
Feb 7, 2015 BTI was probably the first album to put me in my "feelings". I was going through so much and can relate to the screenplay and lyrics so much. BTI is my favorite by far but from Culdesac on is when he started getting really good and now one of my favorite rap artist now.
Feb 7, 2015 BTI has a screenplay, movie, production, singing, rapping. Everything that Bino is made up of he put in this album.
Feb 8, 2015 Mostly the infinity guitars track, but it is one of my favourite projects from him. It was kinda like at that moment in his career you could tell something big was coming. Then culdesac came out and then camp and he still wasn't getting too much attention until the royality tape which I was actually disappointed with. You have to remember at this point I was banging camp, ep, and culdesac pretty hard anyways. I am just a rapper 2 because really that was the start of him really finding his direction.
