Nov 23, 2014 f--- the haters...yes i know the science was kinda out there but f--- you...its great movie also can someone explain the part about him warning himself to stay in that 5th dimension? only part i didnt really get
Nov 23, 2014 do we have spoiler tags? He wasn't warning himself to stay in the 5th, but to stay with Murph on Earth. Then he realized he could help from the 5th. #ViewsFromThe5th
Nov 23, 2014 no s--- sherlock? i mean how did he warn himself to stay on earth...like communicating from the future? and his daughter room is everywhere
Nov 23, 2014 he was stuck in the infinite put there by future humans so he could specifically go there to help her. Each moment was important into leading up to that exact moment of reaching the 5th. It only exisited behind the bookcase, but on an infinite loop of time.
Nov 23, 2014 def one of those movies i'll have to watch a 2nd time to fit all the pieces together. from what i briefly read, it sounded like the science was actually on-point as far as what we know today re: wormholes, aging-speeds, timetravel, etc. best movie i've seen this year. biggest complaint was that when they were on the first planet for a few hours, and a couple decades of time passed, there wasn't a whole lot of sympathy for the guy left on-board for 20+ years. they dicked him. likewise, spending that much time alone could really f--- with your head and make you go crazy...they didn't even touch on that aspect.
Nov 23, 2014 Best movie I've ever seen. Makes me excited for movies in the future. If Interstellar can be possible in 2014, imagine the masterpieces we'll have in 2024.
Nov 23, 2014 Well they all knew what they were signing up for...especially with the time they would be spending if they went on that planet. I only complaint is how they go to that planet first when they clearly know how unstable it can be due to it's distance from the collapsed star.
Nov 23, 2014 one other gripe i had was also related to that first planet stop.. wouldn't that first massive wave have f----- them up pretty badly? seems like they just rode it out without much hassle or damage (aside from the engines flooding). also there, they did a pretty poor job of transitioning to show that an hour+ had passed after the wave hit, allowing them to start the engines again. the way they handled the time lapse was slightly confusing.
Nov 24, 2014 Movie was f---ing incredible! Since SL was down I wasn't even aware people were negative towards it. Although I wasn't hyped up too much based on the trailers, I went to see it anyway (because Nolan) with an open mind but slightly expecting it might be Nolan's slip up. At this point I think I might like it more than Inception... But that may be because I watched it one too many times.
Nov 24, 2014 10/10 movie. Thought Anne Hathaway's performance was a little weak tbh but otherwise impeccable.
Nov 24, 2014 are people negative towards it? or just referring to the pieces mentioned here? ...i've only read positive things outside of this forum regarding it.
Nov 24, 2014 I meant SL, I recall the official thread having a negative attitude towards it. Apart from that, I think the only complaint people have outside the forum was the plot.
Nov 24, 2014 Literally every review I've read has said something along the lines of "heavily flawed but a lot of heart". The general consensus seems to be that the movie is a bit of a mess, but it still manages to work because of the quality of some of the components.
Nov 24, 2014 i've only read a couple short pieces and the boards at imdb. curious how the plot was flawed though? that's what i originally went to imdb to find out -- from what i read, they worked pretty heavily with astro-engineers (or whatever) to ensure that the science behind it actually followed with our current theories...false?
Nov 24, 2014 Well I loved it and saw no problems with it, what I said was the impression I got from SL and some links people posted. And yeah, the theories are based on Kip Thorne's work who was a supervisor on the movie. One of the things I was most surprised though was that they didn't make the black hole part corny. If they pulled that off then there's nothing really they could have f----- up.
Nov 24, 2014 Most of the "flaws" people refer to aren't scientific inaccuracies. More like the very heavy exposition (and repetition of that exposition), the heavy handed monologues characters have to give, lots of things like that. Whereas with Inception I thought all of the exposition kept the movie extremely tight and focused, here it makes the film more clunky and detracts from the emotional aspects of McConaughey and his daughter's relationship as well as the visual spectacle of space. And the constant repeating of "this is how this works and what's about to happen" after we've already heard the explanation twice doesn't really help.
Nov 24, 2014 For the record, I really enjoyed the film. Much more than I did that complete mess of a film TDKR. It definitely does have heart, and it's so earnest that you can't help but admire it. SFX were amazing as expected, cinematography was just as good as you'd expect from a nolan film, the acting was all-around great. There's just a lot of screenplay problems with the dialogue and story that instantly tell me this is the same man who made TDKR.
Dec 1, 2014 Boss Thread! Didn't even read anything but the title, just had to come in here and say that this movie was stunning! I totally didn't expect it to be that friggin good, it was phenomenal. Little hype but better than a movie that was over hyped (Hunger Games Pt. 1).
Dec 2, 2014 I finally got the chance to see this last night and I had the pleasure of seeing it in IMAX. Holy s--- is all I can say. I've never been the last one out of a theater before. I went to see it alone because my friend bailed on me at the last minute but I'm honestly glad I did. Such a powerful movie.
Dec 2, 2014 Great watch. First thing I thought after the movie was "What did Neil deGrasse Tyson think?"
