Is this a genre at all? Or is it just young people with a shared sense of fashion?

You can't tell me Lil Peep's alt rock revival and Lil Yachty's sunny nursery rhyming are part of the same movement. What do Bones, 21 Savage, and Lil Pump have in common? I don't get it, fam.

I guess a few of 'em could be classified as emo but definitely not all. I mean 21 savage is definitely not emo rap lol. neither is lil pump. or yachty. If anything, rap right now is probably as diverse as its ever been, people just tend to lump younger/soundcloud rappers under a single banner, which i guess is where the emo idea comes from. but its the same as mumble rap, it doesn't really exist, its just a way to categorise everything thats a little different

I don't get this platitude. Like, I get saying "mumble" could be kind of insulting, but regardless of the label, you can clearly link s--- like Lil Wayne's Lollipop and Kanye's Amazing with later guys like Keef, Future, Thugger, etc. Whatever you want to call it, that group of artists definitely shares more qualities musically speaking than this wave of young guys we lump together like in the OP.

Shared fashion mostly, their is some parroted stylistic influence but I wouldn't categorize all of them under the same umbrella. Uzi oddly enough floats in the middle of it all, subject matter & flows, but still different to like 21 or Lil Xan and so forth.

Way too broad to just minimize or trivialize it to something as hollow as a pigeonholing term of categorization as "Emo-Rap/Emo Hip-Hop". Emo itself got a bad rap by so many alternative band fans who felt like Punk reigned supreme, in that realm.

well firstly it’s a misnomer, secondly there’s still far too much diversity between just those 3 guys even to lump altogether. It’s lazy and inaccurate

w regard to op again there’s like 6 different vastly different sub genres in that one pic, ppl are just dismissive and lump everything together.

I agreed w the fact that guys like future, wayne, keef and thug are more unique (and good) artists than pump etc. Of course thats also a matter of taste, not saying its a fact.

Not even just that, like Denzel (1st Guy) sounds nothing like peep who sounds nothing like Uzi who sounds nothing like bones (4th Guy) who sounds nothing like pump etc etc it’s all just ppl who don’t actually listen to the music they’re talking about mislabeling it

I don't know who all of them are I'm not labelling them as 'the same' I just can't enjoy rappers that I did hear as much as I do the 4 mentioned.

But yeah what even is new wave. All a matter of perspective I guess. Like, to me Future and Thug are -to an extent- newer rappers. Ofcourse they made music for over a decade but I mean compared to jay dre snoop etc they are more 'new' w their modern sound. Then u got rappers like Baby, Pump, Gunna, Uzi etc who are even more new. I dont got a calendar with the dates they started rapping so what may be new for me could be familiar for others. Not sure if it makes sense but okay lol.

Ftr I do like 03 Greedo, Gunna, Lil Baby. But not so much Pump or 6nine (aside from a few bangers)

bones basically started the white guy rapping like three six sub genre so if u like three six there’s that, a lot of ppl who don’t like rap or don’t like new rap like peep cuz he sounds more alternative, same w a lot of xs slower stuff. You’d probably like Denzel, he’s only even remotely associated w “””mumble rap””” cuz he was on xxl, he’s been doing his own s--- apart from f---ing w raider klan and Florida rappers
