May 7, 2017 Now this is something we haven’t seen in a long time, maybe ever since the whole Prince-Warner Bros. “slave” saga of early 90s. Lupe Fiasco performed a show recently in Seattle, Washington where he took a break from his set to talk about his most recent album DROGAS Light and the next one DROGAS Wave. Light received a mixed response from critics and turns out, Lupe intentionally made a sub standard album to sh*t on his former label Atlantic Records. We all thought that he was done with the major label after Tetsuo & Youth in 2015 and DROGAS Light was an indie album (there was no sign of Atlantic on any store, streaming service or press release) but according to Lupe himself, he had one more album to deliver under his original recording contact. DROGAS Light was a compilation of old a*s songs we just had laying around,” Lupe told the crowd. He admitted that he took the L. Around Lasers, I knew there was going to be some bullsh*t. So, I was like, you know what? I will never, ever, ever, as long as I’m on this label, give this label my heart. What I truly believe and what I really feel. Cause I feel like when you work for somebody, they have to show you some love back; show that they deserve your worth. So, since Lasers, I’ve never really put my all into a project because I feel like Atlantic doesn’t deserve it. So I took an L. May 7, 2017 I don't listen to him but I'd be pretty pissed off as a fan if I've paid money for a project he doesn't give a f--- about and is using as a tool to get back at his label
May 7, 2017 Haven't been following Lupe closely since he dropped that turd of an album Lasers. T&Y was nice, but I wasnt really a Lupe fan anymore/
May 7, 2017 It's stupid both ways the reason i said before or it just looks like he's makin excuses. Imagine an athlete comin out and sayin he didn't try in a game to get back at the admin or something tho... f---in bewildered by this statement
May 7, 2017 Back in the 70's and the 80's Neil Young was in a contract he didn't like with Geffen... So, he kept making albums that sounded like they were from 2080 and albums that sounded like they were from 1880 until he was let out of his contract... Then he started making his regular Neil Young music again.
May 7, 2017 T&Y was fantastic, he put a ton of work into that album, so idk wtf he means by "since Lasers I never gave it my all" because clearly that's a lie. Initially this spiel from Lupe sounded like bs when I first read it but I remembered he really does have a 6 album obligation and I was wondering how he was allowed to "go independent" after TY considering he had another album owed to Atlantic. That being said DROGAS Light isn't terrible but it's definitely his worst project, and I'm positive he didn't intend for it to be anything special either so I'm excited for whatever comes next.
May 7, 2017 Well T&Y was great and I was a big fan of F&L II which I know not many people are. Never gave Light a good chance but I thought it was okay first listen
May 8, 2017 This s--- doesn't even add up. T&Y was fantastic - which at the time he said was his last album on Atlantic. Drogas Light - which was released independently with no sign of Atlantic being anywhere near it - was f---ing awful.
May 8, 2017 I think he just wants people to get superhyped thinking he can do some s--- better than Tetsuo He prolly can't
May 8, 2017 Thought this was common knowledge? But yeah, Drogas Waves better be his best album or he about to take his biggest L for making bs excuses.
May 8, 2017 Ten years ago Lupe dropped The Cool, Drogas Light is a terrible album in comparison. No excuses, Lupe lost direction.
May 8, 2017 If he wanted to get back at the label he could've at least released something super experimental, so it wouldnt hit any mainstream appeal but couldve at least been interesting music
