Nov 11, 2017 Full Disclaimer- I'm not a professional music critic and I've never pretended to be one. I'm just a guy who has been extremely vocal about Eminem over the years and for whatever reason some of you guys care what I think so here I am. Anyways, I was originally going to hold off on listening to WOW and listen to the album in it's entirety knowing absolutely nothing about it. That went out the window shortly after it's release yesterday when an old friend texted me "Beyonce lol?". At that point I said f--- it I'll listen to it. Eminem has put me in a lose/lose situation as a fan with this song. Look, I spent 5 minutes listening to an extremely honest Eminem acknowledging a lot of the shortcomings and problems myself and a few other fans have had with him over the years. While his honesty and all that is great and I really do wish I could appreciate it.... at the end of the day the entire song was full of these EXACT SAME mistakes that he is talking about. Delivery, flow, ect.... It was just an extremely awkward and clumsy song from a technical standpoint. I don't know how else to say it but it sounds like he forgot how to rap. He sounded like s---. Maybe he meant to? Maybe that was the point of the song and the rest of the album will be incredible. I doubt it but I also have a tough time believing that he really lacks that much self awareness. As for the content, again, I appreciate the honesty but I don't really see the point. A small part of me felt sorry for the man but a large part of me thinks he sounds like a whiney, redundant, beta p----. He's covered these topics(regret and retirement) before and has done it better. And, he did it over the course of a bar or two. Not an entire f---ing song. "f--- my last CD/That s---'s in my trash" and "what am I gonna do when the rage is gone?/And the lights go out in that trailer park?/And the window is closing and there's nowhere else that I can go with flows" come to mind. Done and done. I'm at a point now where I just don't want to f---ing hear it. I want him to do something about it. I want him to be a God d--- stoic. Like, great, you're finally aware of all of the "missteps" you've took now go f---ing fix it and make some awesome f---ing music. Oh well. With all that said, I don't hate this song. I'd put it a tier above ANYTHING from MMLP2 and somewhere below songs like Fine Line and GOF. I've listened to it 4, maybe 5 times and that's more than anything from MMLP2. I mean there are still songs from that album I never finished for f---'s sake so I'll take this I guess. As for the rest of the song Beyonce was really out of place and I'd have preferred maybe Elton John or Eminem himself. However, the production was great which was a HUGE surprise considering each and every Eminem/Rubin song from MMLP2 was a complete and total unmitigated disaster. So, yeah, while I don't hate this song but I can't really praise it, either. I still have a little hope for this album and I do believe it will have a gem or two on it ala Recovery. We could still get his best post-hiatus album so far. Then again, maybe we won't. That outro was scary to say the least. We'll know a week from now. If Shady Records is watching I encourage you tell Eminem that going forward, if he does go foward, M Solo said "Eminem, don't tell me how rough the waters are. Just bring the f---ing ship in." @eminemSXN
Nov 11, 2017 I generally agree with what you said. I’m a little more positive on the content, mostly because I’m happy that he’s aware of the world around him. He’s at his best when he’s rapping about his own life and the world around him, so in that regard I’m more excited for the album than I was before this track. Loved the production, especially if it ends up as an intro type track. Hopefully he cleans up the delivery though. That makes me worried.
Nov 11, 2017 A part of me wants to believe he led with w.o.w to address the critics head on so the rest of the music can just breath when it comes out . We'll find out in a week. I agree on the forgetting to rap piece. He's so mechanical it takes away from any emotion what so ever. It's like he's graduated to rainman status and he can't just do a regular A/B rhyme scheme...
Nov 11, 2017 Watch everyone change their opinions on this track now that M Solo has given us a true and honest review of it. It’s okay to admit that this track isn’t very good, even though what he is saying is very open and honest. Even Koolo might jump off of this track’s d-ck and admit that it’s not that good.
Nov 11, 2017 The song will pay off when we find out the very next track he redeems every flaw he mentions. Like the song is an intro "let me get this out of the way first". The album wouldn't be called Revival if it was the same old thing and he learned nothing. And Eminem flows great on Southpaw Soundtrack, you don't just forget how to rap one day. If he could flow on Relapse and that was after years of being out of order, you don't just lose it the next day. At worst he's guilty of experimenting with stuff that in hindsight weren't good.
Nov 11, 2017 The song is great he was spitting real content, at least no corny lines like “full of Italian sausage”, this is the realest track he made in awhile sure it seems like it sounds like some of his other material like guts over fear with a more better flow to it, but I’d rather have an album full of those tracks then dumb burping playful songs with no meaning behind it. & like I said before, why do people care about flow when the meaning of the song is beautiful.
Nov 11, 2017 I rate his opinion. I think this review is spot on. Everyone going crazy over it because it’s Em being honest and self aware aren’t looking past that fact and looking at the track objectively. Technically, the track is bad and not a suitable first single for a new album.
Nov 11, 2017 I I get that. Not trying to diss anyone on this site just saying I’m hoping people could have their own opinion and not wait for someone to decide for them whether they like it or not. No harm intended my man
Nov 11, 2017 how the f--- was beyonce out of place? lmao I seriously don't know who would have done a better job. I know I said that Em and Beyonce on a track wouldn't work but it did and I'm glad. If he got Rihanna on this one it wouldn't be NOWHERE near as good. Rihanna is an unapologetic ratchet queen but Beyonce is an angel. Elton probably could have worked as well I give you that.
Nov 11, 2017 Nice review. Definitely agree. What songs haven't you finished on MMLP2. I have never listened to headlights all the way through or a------, survival of monster haha
