Oct 26, 2018 @CSA actually just listen to Future's DS2. or Without Warning. or Savage Mode. or the Metro Thuggin leaks. or Droptopwop
Oct 26, 2018 f--- it just listen to all of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metro_Boomin_production_discography
Oct 26, 2018 I did it. Most of the songs sounded alike on that s---. I mean after hearing Dre's 2001, Compton production I don't think it was anything special at all. Alright, checked the songs you shared and yeah good trap production but they are not really anything special. I mean I'm sure there are many producers like him who can actually do the same style of beats anyway. I mean Tay Keith is as good as this guy...
Oct 26, 2018 man... its not supposed to sound like Dr. Dre. its an entirely different region, 2 decades apart. but hey if you dont like it you dont like it. I think you're missing out though. I also used to be obsessed with Dre and RZA and Premo and s---, but sound evolves. Metro's sound changed the game. I'd recommend giving DS2 another chance, but let it stand on its own, dont compare it to anything else. Or at least try Rodeo by Travis Scott. Or Without Warning by 21 Savage and Offset. Theres a whole bunch of dope music out there, you might be surprised.
Oct 26, 2018 Already listened to DS2 twice a year ago and I'd prefer Compton all day over that s---. I don't wanna hear same beat for an hour straight. I can see u like trap beats. I like them too but I don't see how is Metro Boomin' s sound better than any other average trap producer... I don't get it. For example Look Alive beat is better than all those to me.
Oct 26, 2018 Hmm, this is a healthy debate to have over the best producer of the 2010s. Metro does have a strong claim but let's dig a little deeper... Clams Casino by a landslide my personal favorite and has incredible consistency--he's the apotheosis of an entire sub-genre. Only problem is you're more likely to have a meteor strike your backyard than hear new Clams. Mike Will another one that had the same consistency & logetivity as Metro, I flip-flop between them. Dude previously had a bigger buzz especially when 23 dropped. Soundwave & the others at TDE crafted a ton of classics and helped build the modern legend that is Kendrick Lamar. As a stand alone producer idk if I'd put him in the aforementioned ranks. FlyLo is a God amongst mortals but his rap catalog isn't as deep as the others. As a producer he's easily the best along with Clams I guess the last name I can think of is 40, obviously he's the sonic half of the mainstream juggernaut that is Drake. Although his sound did run its course a bit.
Oct 26, 2018 true, Clams might be more influential. but remember he has a couple of years headstart on Metro. Since Metro (and 808 mafia i guess) came around everyones been trying to emulate that style. You can hear it in Murda Beatz, Tay Keith, etc. plus all the ATL up and comers, Turbo, Wheezy, etc. And i'm pretty sure that trends gonna continue. Even if the hip hop sound starts going that FL/Soundcloud/distorted bass route with that Ronny J type sound, you can still hear Metro's influence there. Absolutely agreed about Mike Will. If anything he's just getting better with time. Can't forget about Zaytoven too. thing is, all these guys are great but Metro just has something about his production that puts it leagues ahead of the others for me, personally. I keep returning to his s--- even from 4,5 years ago. its so filthy and dark and ominous but at the same time immaculate and clinical. he's like a crazy trap scientist. something about that sound just hits the right spot for me. Spoiler: Spoiler and we all know he's got the best producer tags OAT
Oct 26, 2018 Absolutely, anytime I revisit Teflon Don & Flockaveli I'm always blown away at the sound blew up & evolved (like you mentioned Metro's menacing synths & drums>>>). Lex Luger deserves a lot of credit for those early days. Metro does have the best tags, without hesitation, tho shoutout la musical de Harry Fraud. I'm expecting the dominant sonic blueprint to shift (or it's already shifted) to the likes of what Ronny J & --- have made, slowly but surely it's getting there or to that more bubblegum piano-driven style of Broccoli/Yachty.
