Apr 11, 2021 20 year old father of one, had an outstanding warrant (unknown) and was pulled over for air fresheners hanging on his mirrors.
Apr 12, 2021 Looking forward to hearing the warrant was for when he was caught with a joint 2 years ago and got in a fight with a classmate was he was 13 so the cops were scared for their life.
Apr 12, 2021 another mess brought to the doorstep of Minnesota residents courtesy of their police department
Apr 12, 2021 people dismiss police abolition as too radical an idea––i think it's far more radical to imagine that an institution that evolved out of slave-catching posses could be meaningfully "reformed"
Apr 12, 2021 @JMG bout to come in talking about how he had sold drugs to a pregnant teenager on Mother’s Day. And how he was a murderer.
Apr 12, 2021 they’re now claiming the officer thought she was firing a taser when she shot him. this means the possibilities are: - officers are so stupid or careless they can’t tell the difference - police departments think the public is so stupid or carless that this will fly - being believable isn’t important because police forces in america have never suffered any meaningful consequences
Apr 12, 2021 this is a whole lot of nothing... certainly not the sort of "meaningful consequences" that drastic reduction in size and funding would be. case in point: police & sheriff's departments in many jurisdictions actually seek legislation establishing civilian oversight committees, because it's great optics despite the fact that those bodies are traditionally more forgiving in use-of-force cases than law enforcement bodies themselves. and depts similarly love to make a big deal out of new guidelines or regulations for use of force––so what? many of the actions that result in civilian deaths are against regulation. they k--- ppl and it's like "well, what do you want us to do? he feared for his life." to be clear i'm not really knocking md dems here––measures like this are sort of all you can do in a state leg level without really transforming things at the city level (or having very sweeping federal regs about what a police force can/cannot be)
Apr 12, 2021 What would police abolition actually look like? I’m not arguing, I’m just curious about your point of view.
Apr 12, 2021 they really couldn't even make it through the whole derek chauvin trial without murdering another person
Apr 12, 2021 I don’t know if it has started yet, but when things like this happen, people like to dig into the victims history to see if they’ve done ANYTHING wrong in their life... to sort of justify the police brutality... like people using George Floyd’s past robbery and drug use as a justification for his murder. The fact that people will go to such lengths to literally justify police murdering a civilian WITHOUT addressing it AS murder is disgusting. luckily most of what I’ve seen said about this kid has been all love... god bless him and his family.
Apr 12, 2021 not a gun person explain to me how she didn't realize it wasn't a taser when she had to pull back the safety
Apr 12, 2021 https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-lapd-discipline-change-20170109-story.html there was much more here recently (there has been a lot of haggling over what will happen with sheriffs at the county level) i'll pull up later today when i can
