Apr 22, 2017 kinda awkward wording in the title but i didn't want to say "fallen off" because i think that implies the music they make now is bad, but sometimes people just get old and can't do it as well as they used to be able to, or they can't adapt their content to being old and it just comes off as corny (see: jay z with the trumpetty dad rap talking about miley cirus twerking). even some guys who used to seem bullet proof like Slug or DOOM have declined in their older years and gotten kinda stale, and while they can still make enjoyable music you're likely not gonna be putting it in a top 5 list of their projects. but there are some dudes that are knocking on 40's door who've been rapping since the 90s that can still put out great albums. I think Aesop Rock released one of his best albums of his career last year with The Impossible Kid. He adapted to being older now but can still make great music without coming off as corny or even really complacent. Skelethon in 2013 was another top album of his. Killer Mike and El-P are both another example of that with their resurgence with RTJ at 40+. are there any other middle aged rappers who are putting out top 5 contenders within their own discography currently?
Apr 22, 2017 remains to be seen like you said because his rap career hasn't been as long as any of the others mentioned but i wouldn't take tlop as a positive sign i woudln't put that anywhere near a top list of kanye projects
Apr 22, 2017 i was never particularly a nas fan but would you put life is good towards the top end of his discography? genuinely asking, i've never listened to it but the few features i've heard from him in recent years haven't impressed me.
Apr 22, 2017 I agree about tlop not being that good of a sign tbh but ye can f---ing come out of nowhere and have us all in shambles.... Dude went from 808s to mbdtf to yeezus... Only time can tell
Apr 22, 2017 yea i guess but 808s mbdtf and yeezus were all top contender material for his discography, then he went to tlop. maybe he'll surprise us but idk i'm not expecting it still not a rapper
Apr 22, 2017 I can't say it's his best album or top 2 but it is a pretty strong album. The rapping, production and lyrics are all great. But if you don't like Nas, then I'm not sure if you'll be a fan of this.
Apr 22, 2017 Joe Budden, his recent projects (some love lost, all love lost) were awesome to me. His last project wasnt as good but not due to his skill but more so he tried a diff sound. Cormegas last album was great also and hes deep the game
