Heard it on the radio this morning and d--- what a s--- song.

First of all, the hook is nice. If this song was about actually making it and living out your dreams it could be great. Its just out of place.

    Instead

    - marshall is angry but... at who? He's insulting and ranting, but at who? And what does this have anything to do with the positive/happy chorus?
    - its all about d----s and cocks (and sucking rap nipples)
    - his agressive flow, ignoring the lyrics ughh

Maybe Royce will talk about how he is living out his dreams!!!

    He's in jail :dead3:

And.. jail turned him into a h---------- because he wants bruno to show his a--- and tells marshall he loves him.

I think this song is eminem & royce coming out :kanye3:

    Thoughts?

What a waste of a good Bruno Mars hook & beat.

It was just a sellout song to get some sales for the Bad Meets Evil EP.

True but even 2011 marshall could at least have made a verse thats actually on topic, regardless of the quality.

The hook is nice? It's the worst part of the song. Other than Royce's verse, which is pure embarrassment.

Shameful moment of an otherwise great and consistent EP.

Also how is Em's verse not on topic as you keep saying? He's using his comeback in music, and beating of a drug addiction against the odds as a story of triumph and 'living out his dreams'. Sounds pretty on topic to me.

It's really not that hard to connect the dots from the hook to the verses.... If you really don't get it then here's the link to rapgenius for you: https://genius.com/Bad-meets-evil-lighters-lyrics

Yes it was consistent but not in a good way. Too many terrible punchlines & references to fast food, hoes & his penis.

Okay so I think what you're saying is... the tone of Em's verse doesn't mesh with the chorus? Because the lyrics/content = completely relevant.

So if you are saying that, I agree. That's what makes the song sound so silly and forced. But rather than say Em's verse is out of place, I would say it's Bruno's chorus which is out of place. As Bruno fkn Mars shouldn't be on a Bad Meets Evil... Anything, lmao.

Unfortunately Royce and Em were p-----s, and rather be creative and try to create a big song on their own merit - they thought they could use a cheap shortcut and just slap a made-to-be-a-hit chorus on a song. And, it was a hit, but it also ruined the EP. Em has little integrity these days.

The delivery is the biggest part, yeah.

I don't know if the beat and chorus were there and they wrote their verses its them who messed up. If the chorus was added to the verses then I agree. But it seems like it was the former.

But also, listening to the chorus its about living out your dreams/being what you want to be. If an artist made verses about things they dreamed off and how it came true, I would get it. And yes parts of Eminems verse are about that but also a huge part is him being angry. Not just delivery but also lyrics. He is ranting about haters, mentioning penises thru the whole song and insulting someone (who?). How does that go well with a positive/happy chorus?

Both of that combined (so yeah @WindowPane thats why I said ignore reading the lyrics but also listen to his verse) it makes it a bad song imo.

I don't like the EP minus a few songs at all, but Lighters takes the crown for worst song to me.

I agree with everything except for the relevance of Em's lyrics.

He isn't ranting about haters man, just listen to the progression of the lyrics.

''By the time you hear this, I will have already spiraled up
I would never do nothing to let you cowards f--- my world up
If I was you I would duck, or get struck like lightnin’
Fighters keep fightin’, put your lighters up!"

He's just talking about his own struggle, and the 'cowards' or whoever he's aiming lyrics at is just general doubters, or speaking to the idea of doubt - whilst he's down and out, so other people can parallel that against their own struggles and hence ''this one's for you and me... living out our dreams''

AKA 'f--- the doubters - just fight through whatever and live your dreams'

That's the whole message of the song and that's consistent throughout his verse. Any mention of d----s is just wordplay (if you're referring to the whole 'flip d-ck' / 'c--- is still c---'") part, and it's still completely relevant, as he's talking about changing his life, coming back against the odds and talking to the idea of REALLY doing that vs. just talk.

Don't see what you mean with his content, unless you just didn't / aren't listening to him properly. Because his verse is back to front relevant.

That's fine, but the angry part is just him being angry at everyone who doubted him before he got famous but also at the people who criticised him after his fame. Like he says in the last few lines, the hate is what makes him stronger and keeps his spirit high.
