    @LifeSXN

Since quarantine started, the vast majority of us have been spending a lot more time inside. Being cooped up can really affect your mental (and physical) health, so even if you're someone like me who doesn't like accumulating a lot of unnecessary appliances and stuff, I think it's been well worth it to invest in little things that up your quality of life (or are simply super convenient).

Are there any purchases you've made in the past year (or just in general) that you feel fit that bill?

I've been extremely happy with all these purchases:

    1. Electric Kettle. If you're a coffee or tea drinker this is a must-have. It's much quicker than the stove and you don't have to watch it or listen for a whistle since it'll just get up to the temp and stay there—plus it's always the exact temp you want it so you don't end up burning your brew.

    2. Straw-top water bottle. The most popular brand of these is Hydroflask but I bought one by SimpleModern for half the price. I got the 40 oz. version with the goal of drinking three of them a day (so around 1 gallon / 3.5 liters) but I've easily been drinking 4-5 of them for closer to 1.5 gal / 5.5 liters. The straw top really does make a difference.

    3. Weighted blanket. I toss and turn a lot at night and I've found this helps me sleep more restfully. It's also generally just super comfy to use when you're relaxing and watching a movie or something.

I actually did buy a new rice cooker when I moved into my new apt last may, but I didn't think to list it cuz I owned one for many years before that.

Cooking rice on the stove??? couldn't be me:nahgirl:

Seeing an electric kettle on here as a British man is hilarious. I’d challenge anyone to find a kitchen in Britain without a kettle, they’re staples here.

I started using a blanket instead of a quilt recently, much better at regulating temperature, I sleep through the night without disruption much more often. Also bought a triple layered flask a few months before lockdown, life changer when travelling.

Copping a juicer for blending shakes has made my daily consumption a lot more conceivable instead of manual shaking that still retain lumps.

I'd say the average American household has a kettle (at least in my experience), just not an electric one. I attribute this to the fact that the average household also probably uses a Keurig or a drip coffee maker and those don't need a kettle.

The electric ones are becoming much more common here as alternate/more exact methods for preparing tea and coffee become more popular (aka people realized coffee doesn't have to taste like s---).

Since pandemics started I've bought and read around 60 books, besides that I was trying to save my money. I also got myself a stationary bicycle, keeps me in motion when I'm home, cause besides work and shopping I'm not going out, f--- that.

Oh yes this s--- too. But my roommate already had one when I moved in so we just split the CO2 cost.

Seltzer water is also one thing that helped start drinking less over the years cuz I realized a lot of what I miss is the carbonation.

    What have you been reading?

Mostly biographies, Rakim's recent book, Bryan Cranston one from 2017, a few Star Wars books, some Napoleon Hill books, that "Rich Dad Poor Dad" piece I was trying to read since forever but never got time, Elon Musk biography, book about Netflix, every Mike Tyson book, Barack Obama's "A Promised Land" and Michelle's "Becoming", even Trump's "The Art Of Comeback", Eminem's "The Way I Am" for nostalgia etc. etc.

Reading really takes me away from everyday bs that's been happening since rona arrived.

Ah so you're a non-fiction guy, dope. Do you read most of these in English or Polish? Or does it depend (cuz I assume not every single book is translated between both languages)?

I've said this before and I'll say it again, Prodigy's memoir My Infamous Life is a must read as far as hip-hop books go.

I think over a half of books these I've read were english, cause there is no polish versions yet and I didn't want to wait. I'll try to find that Prodigy's book too, seems to be a good one.

As a professional chef who loves easy ways to cook good food at home for minimal effort, get yourself an AIR FRYER!!!

Also some very good stuff mentioned, I have everything in OP and a rice cooker and they are all essential.

Also I'd say some type of water filter. Reverse osmosis if you can afford it or a simple brita if not.
