Imagining an alternate universe where instead of going the trapper route as far as lyrical content, thug goes wu tang and raps about his 32 tiger styles. Still fleshing out this idea. Give me a bit

I would say Uzi, but he has so many clear influences, it's crazy. It'd be more interesting to ask who all the artists Key!, Makkonen, Ethereal and Father apparently served as the generationally patriarchal sires of were. Especially in Atlanta. But as far as Thug is concerned, I suppose maybe Sahbabii? If we could truly say he is one of Thug's descendants? If so, I'd say he's the one who deserves the spotlight, even though he doesn't directly associate with Thug. There are clear influences there.

    EDIT:

    Nope. This man:

No questions asked. No doubt in my mind. Absolutely no qualms about this final answer whatsoever. UnoTheActivist too fye. And too g.d.'d slept-on. Him and ThouXanBanFauni. Sick of it, to be honest.

This is an interesting question. Overall its Uzi but he's evolved way past that now. Its always changing but right now Lil Baby takes the crown, no question. Gunna's cool but he loses me sometimes. Sahbabbi is f---ing amazing, I've enjoyed everything he's dropped. Keed and Gotit both still need to evolve into their own sounds more I think.

I don't if I'd even call Fauni and Uno Thug children, they're more like Sosa children. Same for Carti.

lmao there are some moments where Thug just raps (like on Sacrifices) and I ask myself the same question. Would be fascinated to hear him dig into that more. He did on this RMR remix too

Limiting myself to his more recent offspring, I'd say Lil Baby and Keed. Overall it's Uzi of course

Lil Keed, he popped up on that Gary Vee playlist I was listening the other day, I liked his song so I checked more and I have to admit, he's really dope.

So, let's make a list—who do we consider Thug's children in any capacity (ie Youngboy to me is a child of Gates + Thug, carti is keef + future + thug, etc)

    Lil Baby
    Gunna
    NBA Youngboy
    Lil Keed
    Lil Gotit
    Carti
    Uzi
    Sahbabii
    YNW Melly

    who else?

    Absolutely!

He doesn't sound anything like Thug at this point, but I'd still say he was heavily influenced by Thug. He used to rap like Meek Mill.

This really brings to mind the subversively controversial declaration Vince Staples made about Atlanta being home to the all-around best modern-day lineup of influential artists. I'm so ashamed to have gotten into 2014 Atlanta so late. OG Maco is another underrated pioneer of that sound that expanded into something rather diversified by nature. The Dark Ethereal Alternative Scene. Father is probably the funniest man alive. Credibly convinces one to believe Acid Rap never died. Slug Christ even stands out in his own unique way and is 100x less cringe than, say, a Chet Hanks. (Strictly comparing the Alabaster Mastery levels, there. *Clears Throat*) "Awful Records" holds precedential weight out here, even as an independent collective. But Thouxanbanfauni is more influenced by Chief Keef than Uno ended up being. In the beginning, you could hear that in Uno's delivery, but that's changed so much since 2015.

I don’t think i’ll ever be able to rap my head around Lil Baby becoming bigger than Thug within a couple years

Keep in mind, thug was doing hoopity doopitys with his voice until he decided to compromise in 2019. Is he a better artist? Yes. But baby essentially does a dumbed down thug style so it’s really not that surprising

I think this is the main list although I do think Carti is more of a descendent of Chief Keef rather than Thug. And Younboy maybe more of a Boosie offshoot? Also I wouldn't call Melly a direct Thugger descendent, more of a heavily influenced. There are legions more, especially from ATL but none that have reached these guys' levels.

If there is one on the way up its Ola Runt imo. He's great and worth checking out if you havent already

    Yes, this thug >>>>>>>

    Love it.

Also, out of the guys @Donkey Kong Country listed, my favorites are probably NBA Youngboy & Melly
