Run-DMC is one of my all time favourite groups.

    Do you agree with DMC?

Dunno what he said but when I see someone say "hiphop today" I am gonna say no immediately.

There are so many rappers and different styles, there's something for almost everyone. So to generalize all of it as hiphop today and dismissing (or praising it) as a whole... nah not for me.

In a nutshell all he was saying is that we need more rappers who don't promote so much violence and drug abuse.

Sort of but I think he meant the lifestyle, did you see the bit where he talked about how ‘everyone hated disco’? That’s because in the 70s, suddenly everyone started hating on disco. Not because of the music, but because the lifestyle that some of them were leading with loads of drugs etc. A bit similiar to hip hop today.

DMC never said the music today was bad either.

He’s not dismissing the artists, he didn’t say any were bad. But he said that hip hop isn’t a movement really anymore. Well no where near as much as the 80s and the 90s.

Does he think hip-hop is responsible for black on black violence

    EDIT:

This is "old man yells at clouds" tier. Somebody tell this dude about capitalism.

I can't remember the last time DMC even released any music, and I wasn't even alive the last time he released anything worth listening to

I listened to every Run-DMC album and their catalogue as a whole is pretty lackluster. I like Raising h--- but that's about it.

This is where I entirely disagree. Anyone who listens to hip-hop & views it as a promotion of doing drugs/causing violence rather than a reflection of the environment that these artists grew up in is just wrong. These issues of g--- violence, drug addiction, poverty etc. date back to long before hip-hop. It’s not hip-hop artist’s duty to combat these issues.

Even before that. You can go back to Chicago during the 1920s when Al Capone was running around. It’s long been a racist dog whistle to attribute these large issues like drug addiction/g--- violence/poverty to Hip-Hop. Doing so is just dumb.

Yeah I meant connected to hip hop music though, as disco and funk are very well connected to hip hop.

Some NYC gangs have been around since the 1890s with people like Lucky Luciano etc

Luciano practically started the 5 families and is the godfather of mafia crime

Hip Hop is not going to fix socioeconomic problems. Hip Hop should become more balanced commercially though but cash rules so it's whatever.

Hip hop might be or might not be about drugs and violence. Let the artists do their thang and add some variety in hip hop. It's upto us to not get influenced by them.
Even I listen to Lil Uzi, Travis Scott and this modern day trap s---, but not once I did drugs, had xannies, sipped lean, killed somebody.

People have to use their minds as well and know what's right or wrong.
