Aug 25, 2016 Lil Yachty is known for not caring about old-school or serious hip-hop. In a new interview with Billboard, Yachty says he "honestly couldn't name five songs" by Tupac or The Notorious B.I.G. He dismisses the criticisms of this, saying, "if I'm doing this my way and making all this money, why should I do it how everybody says it's supposed to be done?" Yachty has always been known for his unorthodox opinions about the rap game. In an interview with Tidal recently, he called all serious hip-hop boring. “It’s just fun, it’s not serious. I hate serious rap. It’s boring. Serious rap music puts me to sleep.” He also claimed in an interview with 106 KMEL that while he likes J. Cole, Yachty never listens to his music. This casual attitude towards major pillars of hip-hop has rubbed some old-heads the wrong way, but has also been a major part of his popularity with young people. “I just can’t wait until the point when everyone understands hip-hop isn’t the same anymore,” Lil Yachty said during his recent appearance on The Breakfast Club. He went on to say that people “just don’t like me because I’m not lyrical enough... If you ever read comments and click on their profile, they’re like super old.” Clearly, Yachty is going to keep doing him, regardless of whether old-school fans of hip-hop are down for it or not. You can check out his whole interview here. Yachty is also going to be appearing on the Pigeons & Planes stage at ComplexCon. http://www.complex.com/music/2016/0...snt-know-five-songs-by-tupac-or-notorious-big
Aug 25, 2016 yeah well you called 2pac overrated while never hearing a full album from him, thats equally as embarrassing jet.
Aug 25, 2016 Lmao all these fa---- a--- old heads, big n pac were both dead before yachty was even born don't get mad at him for listening to s--- relevant to his life instead of brushing up on old s--- to impress salty dust heads that are gonna hate him either way.
Aug 25, 2016 Good for yachty being honest and not caring what anyone thinks if you really supported creativity you'd admire that instead of having a sad that someone in the world doesn't listen to the same music as you.
Aug 25, 2016 @Trippy Skippy while I personally don't care either way what he knows or listens to, I think the argument is more about knowing the history of the genre of music you do for a living. A rock band should probably know about the Beatles just like a rapper should probably know at least the basics about Pac and Big.
Aug 25, 2016 What would an alt metal band need to know about the Beatles? If Hendrix wasn't a fan of Elvis, would that diminish his musical value? 90s music shouldn't be put on a pedestal it had its great moments and classics just like any other time period for any other genre but old heads need to quit romanticizing it and let progress happen. I'm sure there are tons of successful rock acts that don't actively listen to The Beatles or The Doors or Black Flag but I'm not gonna let that trigger me when I listen to their music because I'm not a mental child.
Aug 25, 2016 Well they certainly don't have to actively listen to them or even listen to them at all. To me it's just more of a respect thing, I'd think if you're in the rap business you'd wanna know about the legends that made the biggest impact. But yeah not a huge deal I suppose, just more weird than anything imo.
