Just wondering where you guys (and girls if there are any on this site) go to get your music reviews?

For me personally I go to Dead End Hip Hop's youtube channel, The Needle Drop's channel, HipHopDX sometimes and obviously our very own Sectioneighty review section.

Doesn't have to be just hip-hop though. The one's I've mentioned with the exemption of TND are obviously all hip-hop based. Are there any good places for, say, RnB or soul or rock reviews? If so share the knowledge!

Sxn80 obv, although I tend to disagree with the ratings

Sometimes p4k if its not too sensational

But mostly I just discuss it on forums and come to my own conclusions

The Needle Drop is probably the only go-to review for me. I do tend to read reviews on other sites if I have the time, but I don't generally focus my time on reviews that much any more.

I usually use p4k or the internet's busiest music nerd's channel to find new music; sometimes I read/watch the reviews, sometimes I just download based on the title or artwork if I'm bored. Rateyourmusic isn't bad but it's not really a "crew", the reviews are written by users. Regarding rap reviews, I read the ones posted here. With all the rap discussions, that's all I need.

I also used to read impressionofsound[.]com but I think they have stopped writing? Not sure, they haven't done a review in ages though

I think forums, most noticeably Section 80, are the best places to gather other opinions because in general critics tend to have certain biases. DEHH seems to be more "real hip hop" ish than other places, Pitchfork can be really spotty because a lot of them are pretty elitist compared to the average joe, and Anthony Fantano's taste is too unique for people to follow him as much as they do. I even tend to kind of disregard our own reviews because I could get the same info, only more concise, by asking them on here.

But with forums you get a wide variety of tastes and preferences and instead of seeing something like an album getting a 7 from one place and a 3 from another and not knowing which one is legit, you can just talk to the people and organically from a better more informed opinion. Imo forums basically render review sites in general null. (That's not to say there aren't excellent reviews out there cough cough http://sectioneighty.com/review-action-bronson-mr-wonderful/)

Needledrop, dead end hip hop or spectrum pulse,
But if im looking for a review for a more accessible/casual album then i'll got to bigquint or ARTV (i would go to ARTV for general rock reviews)

I dont really bother with written reviews too much, they're generally well thought out and articulated, but video reviews just feel so much more intimate, just a personal preference....

ugh fantano. dunno how you guys can watch that drivel.

the dead end hip hop crew are good guys. i appreciate all of them.

it might be too inside baseball, but i think the writer is generally much more important than the publication. there are times when i'll groan and laugh my way through a review at spin, and others when they'll nail the album like no one else.

Yeah this is the reason why I don't f--- with most review sites, I don't have the patience to sit and learwthe names of who is good on the staff and who isn't. The only exception is, as I said before, sxn80, simply because if I think they f----- up I can discuss it with them

I just go on wikipedia and check roughly how many stars there are in the ratings section
