Sep 15, 2021 I think people don't realize how bad labels are these days, even OVO and TDE s---, like you can sign to the biggest rapper's labels right now and you will never blow up. Shady should have just closed after 50, Obie and D12 left.
Sep 15, 2021 Most labels where the boss is literally one of the most famous and successful rapper of all time, the signings are usually weed carriers/ghostwriters. Ovo is drake and a bunch of weirdos. Shady the same s---. But its the fault of the artists. Eminem can‘t control everything. How about slaughterhouse make good albums?
Sep 15, 2021 Yes of course. He is the best. But he is one of the few. The most of the other labels were terrible
Sep 15, 2021 Wayne also had Nicki and Drake. But even though Nicki still kinda doing good, her career is weird, it feels like her time ended long ago even if her last album sold good.
Sep 15, 2021 You could say somewhat good music too from kanye. Pusha t, big sean etc. but they also had a lot of weed carriers there
Sep 15, 2021 Shady and Aftermath certainly are. If you’re not Em, Dre or an artist with a following outside of the label, they won’t do much for you. Budden addressed this in his Em rant and he was spot on. Em signs artists to be his muses. Then if he does work with an artist he signed, he’s usually trying to change their music to fit his style, which doesn’t work for most artists.
Sep 15, 2021 Yeah, I forgot about GRODT, but D12 never really had a classic. Devil's Night is close, but thanks to Em, who carried the whole tape tbh
Sep 15, 2021 What you talking about. There is like not one album from shady records the past 10 years where the artist sound like to fit Ems style. the last one was slaughterhouse album where em wanted them to sound like some type of recovery s--- . i guess people still don’t understand what’s the business nowadays, when you sign to shady records
Sep 15, 2021 There are like thousands of labels in the US alone. Shady is easily top 10. The fact is, people don't even know about labels except few major ones such as Young Money (don't know if it still exists), Aftermath, Def Jam, GOOD Music etc. And are we gonna look at the quality or the numbers ? Em's own albums are partly under Shady too, so as far as the sales go, Shady is one of the best labels still today. As for the quality, they don't have any weak rapper in their squad, so I wouldn't say they are terrible at that neither. People just like to mention Em and feed off of him. This is just a nonsense attempt to gain views, not even gonna watch it.
Sep 15, 2021 D12 and Obie had mainstream appeal, Slaughterhouse pretty much didn't. Now people want something that sounds good, and SR is still looking for lyrical miracle music.
Sep 15, 2021 Shady gotta be top 10 worst labels after the original artists left, just look at Grip. And I bet he signed for more than one album since they haven't kicked him yet.
Sep 15, 2021 This is easily a lie. Lol. Only time he did that was with Yela's and SH's debut albums, which happened to be a butthurt thing for Budden. Yela completely went on his way after that unsuccessful try. SH on the other hand, just ended mostly because Budden was a b---- lol. So you can't take Budden's word for it. And how easy it is to act as if Shady was created in 2010 lol. They built the label in 1999. And thanks to Em, D12 blew up. We all know if it wasn't for Em, D12 would have sold less than any other artist ever signed to Shady. 50 Cent almost became as big as Em was with his debut and I think Shady played an huge part in that. Dre wouldn't have signed him, it was all Em to begin with. And yet, they made another star-esque rapper from Detroit who never would have imagined going gold or platinum ever; Obie Trice. If it wasn't for Em's addiction, I think Stat Quo had a solid chance at being the 4th successful act of the Shady but he also was too gangsta to listen to the mastermind and deliver a singing hook etc. Anyway, the 99-06 Shady was probably the most successful era by any rap label ever. Just check the sales and how they created 3 different artists from scratch. 2.0 was a flop because they tried to imply the Recovery tactics over very different acts. That short era was the only time that we may actually say Em tried to fit artists to his style but again, it wasn't really his style at all, it was just to help them get big. With Boogie coming, I think they are pretty solid to think about. In today's world, a label can do very little for any artist. Em is still a good power for promos but unless he is on a song with his signees, people don't really care to check them out. Still, any Shady artists are obviously very free to make their own music as they please. Not sure how you can say Boogie on Rainy Days was rapping like Em or same for Grip or conway features he had done.
Sep 15, 2021 I like Love Story but I wouldn't call it a classic at all. Probably not even Cheers, even though it was also good. I would say Devil's Night, GRODT and The Massacre.
Sep 15, 2021 Btw, just checked Grip's page on Spotify, the guy's Em feature didn't even have a million streams which kinda sad in a way. He is not bad tho. They should have shot a video for that song to help this guy having more exposure.
