Dec 3, 2014 I posted this in the Shady XV thread last week but thought I'd put it out here for discussion. I did a thorough track by track review. 1. Shady XV- I absolutely hated the classic rock beats on MMLP2 but it actually worked well here. This is great. 2. Psychopath Killer- This is easily the best Em collaboration with Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf since he signed them. The verses, the hook, the beat. It's amazing in all three phases. Might be my favorite song on the album. 3. Die Alone- This is one of the biggest disappointments I've ever heard from Em. With a serious title like Die Alone and Kobe on the hook after their flawless collaboration on Talkin To Myself I was expecting this to be one of Em's best songs since his comeback. Instead it is literally unlistenable. Maybe the worst song on the album. 4. Vegas- I didn't like this song after my first listen, but it's grown on me more than any other song on the album. I love it now. 5. Yall Ready Know- Average, meh, forgettable. Just like most of Slaughterhouse's songs. 6. Guts Over Fear- I overrated this when it first leaked. I no longer think it's Em's best song since Recovery. But it's still really good. Great actually. 7. Down- I don't listen to this. Just can't get into Yelawolf. 8. Bane- My biggest disappointment of this album was Em not being on this track. It basically confirmed that he'll never work with D12 again and they will never release another album again. The track itself is okay. I was glad Porter actually participated. Swifty and Kuniva both put in great effort on this and had great verses. Bizarre let me down though, as wierd as that is to say. Since this was his first verse on a Shady Records album in 8 years I was expecting some major shock value from him and he didn't really say much. 9. Fine Line- This is easily the best song on the album and maybe Em's best song since Recovery. The third verse is absolutely phenomenal and that bridge is one of his best ever. 10. Twisted- One of the best songs on here. My only complaint is no Em verse but his singing with Skylar works great. Yelawolf is actually tolerable on here. 11. Right For Me- I was hoping for some personal content on this or at least a solid theme throughout the song. Instead it's basically just Em showing off, which is alright. 12. Detroit Vs Everybody- Best beat on the album by far. Amazing. I actually like the hook and all the verses are great, except for Danny Brown's. Wtf is that shyt? Bonus disc- The track selection for this was absolutely horrible! But the Lose Yourself demo was a pleasant surprise. Not as good as the original obviously but still a nice gem from the vault. Glad we got to hear it. Overall I give this project a 7/10. This wasn't meant to move alot of units or have mainstream success. This was for people like us, his hard core fan base. This was just somethin to hold us over while they all work on their new albums and I think it did a good job of doing that. Overall Eminem's material on here is a step in the right direction after the disappointment of MMLP2.
Dec 3, 2014 My ranking of the albums songs from best to worst.. 1. Fine Line 2. Psychopath Killer 3. Guts Over Fear 4. Twisted 5. Detroit Vs Everybody 6. Vegas 7. Right For Me 8. Shady XV 9. Bane 10. Yall Ready Know 11. Die Alone 12. Down
Dec 3, 2014 I actually agree with a lot of this. I don't like right for me at all though. And I disagree about the danny brown verse and I don't think anything on this is 'amazing'. Some very good/great but not mindblowing.
Dec 3, 2014 Right For Me is kinda wierd. Idk what I would even categorize it as. It's like a strange twist on a relationship track. Just Em rambling a bunch of really off the wall s--- that'll happen before he ever finds a girl that's right for him.
Dec 3, 2014 lol @ people who think Danny Brown's verse is bad but like so many other s--- songs on this album
Dec 3, 2014 Danny's verse on Detroit vs. Everybody is far from my favorite of his, but at least it doesn't sound he yelled into a laptop mic and then mixed it on garageband.
Dec 3, 2014 I honestly don't even remember any of the verses on the song. I only listened to the album twice, and I have no desire to revisit it...
Dec 3, 2014 Talkin To Myself is a Top 5 song of his since his comeback. One of my favorite tracks of all-time.
Dec 3, 2014 With the exception of bane I've been really enjoying this album. Every song and every verse. This is going to sound odd but this is exactly what I wanted to hear from eminem. He has nothing personal left to say, his "inspirational" songs have been ehh. I was hoping to hear him just rap. I don't need to be emotionally invested in everything I listen to. Sometimes it's fun just to listen to him go crazy on a song. His punchlines are much improved, he's been very current with references in his verses which is good and his ability to rhyme is still there. I just wish he would work on his flow. That's the only complaint I have. His verse on Vegas, psychopath, and his second verse on right for me are my favorites. I'm very pleased with this.
Dec 3, 2014 I actually love Die Alone. Other than Psychopath Killer, thats my favorite track on the album.
