Was browsing r/all when I found this

Ok pretty cringey title by itself....then you read over 200 comments from casual rap/music listeners that really put into perspective how naive and disconnected people are. Keep in mind this isn't even r/music, it's r/videos. Multiple derogatory uses of the word "mumble rap" ensue @Big Cuntry and all around people just sounding clueless once you're used to discussion on a rap forum where more or less everyone sounds knowledgeable of some type of rap (don't all of you take that as a compliment)

mumble rap is a term used by dust heads and a good indicator of someone who’s music opinion is likely irrelevant

yea I'm giving this user base too much credit but at least it's 90% people who actively searched for online rap discussion and not people who sound like they're from 2004 (except emsxn)

Like what the f--- kind of comment is this?

"Something is going on with music in 2018. I’ve never been a hip hop fan but it’s exploding this year. This Is America, Daytona, Duppy Freestyle, Story of Adidon, Ye, The Carters, and now this. Music is exploding right now. Maybe I’m overhyping it, but I think we’re witnessing a shift of some kind.

Like I said, I’ve never been a hip hop fan, yet lately it’s all I’m listening to."

this guy been living under a rock? How could you possibly think this

"I've only been into hip-hop for a couple years now and it absolutely blows my mind that we can be alive while people like Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole are making music. "

Ugh. The token Kendrick & J Cole comment where someone is trying desperately to look like they are keeping up with the "good rap" that's out. And J Cole has been fell off for awhile now :drakelaugh2:

Huh? Nowhere as good as he was, but huh? This isn't Hopsin we're talking about. Y'all worse with reinforced narratives and swayed-opinion agendas than f---in' Gretchen Weiners and Regina George. Jay Electronica > All Them Weak n----s. And Biggie Smalls > Notorious B.I.G. (Two different rappers.). I bet you look like one of his turds.

I wanna like this, but I don't know if I want to agree or not. Might make me look like I'm trying to play victim at every turn. There's racial connotations riddled in a lot of these contemporary colloquialisms and idiomatically dialectic expressions. Most of them were crafted by Neo-Nazis of The 21st Century. A good percentage of that demographic actually plays an executive role in what is externalized or propagated as "trendy" to the youth of this generation

Here lies the problem with younger fans/artists. Growing up, we all respected lyricists that came before. Its just how it is. Now I keep seeing dumb s----s refer to older rappers as dust heads and irrelevant. Funny thing is, these dust heads "Eminem" "Jay z" "Pusha T" " Kanye" are all still selling MORE than these new young talented colored hair superstars. Maybe it is you who's opinion is irrelevant, that's certainly what the statistics show.

Ive been saying this for a bit but reddit in general is getting close to youtube territory. The site got too popular during the election cycle and the facebook r-----s flooded in along with the tumblr fa----s, creating a toxic concoction of people who shouldnt reproduce.
