Nov 27, 2017 The last certified classic album to drop was good Kid, M.A.A.D City. This album shook the game like CRAZY. I still remember the craziness surrounding it and this time period in general. Butterfly was also phenomenal, but didn't really get the same respect from everybody. Some call it an instant classic (me) others say it isn't or still needs more time. This is all besides the point though. Hip-Hop is so stale right now man. Overall. Has been for a while. We had/have some GREAT albums don't get me wrong, but nothing literally groundbreaking. It's LONG overdue for one of these artists to drop a classic level album and shake the game. Claiming their spot in rap. What is taking so long? Who will be the next to drop a CERTIFIED - UNDENIABLE - CLASSIC? An album that has the ENTIRE game like "Wow, he/she is the one." Just imagine how fun and exciting that would be to see your personal favorite artist accomplish that. Waking everybody and everything TF up. Changing the game as we know it. Sheesh. Who do you think could do it?
Nov 27, 2017 OFF OF THE TOP OF MY HEAD. These are who I think could pull it off right now. (no order): Nas (another one) J.I.D Joey Bada$$ Vince Staples Earl Sweatshirt Isaiah Rashad Mick Jenkins (he's currently missing some of the buzz though) Denzel Curry J. Cole (my top 3 rapper, but he still needs that classic) Chance The Rapper I took into account their buzz, distinctiveness, song-crafting and lyricism. I know I'm missing some. This has to happen next year. It's about that time. Be on the lookout. s--- will get crazy.
Nov 27, 2017 Earl, Vince, Drake, Jay Z, YG, Future, and Kendrick have all dropped classics since GKMC and that’s just off the top of my head
Nov 27, 2017 I doubt Vince will drop an album next year since he usually spaces out his stuff, if anyone does it will probably be Eminem's (doubt it will be a classic), Astroworld, or something from Drake.
Nov 27, 2017 The word "Classic" is so overused its ridiculous No album in the past few years can be a classic. Albums have to stand the test of time before actually being a classic. I agree with OP stating GKMC is the last classic, as its had lots of time to settle and has only gotten better. 4:44 has plenty of potential to be a classic. There are lots of other albums too that might be but we have to see how they sound and are respected in a few years
Nov 27, 2017 Had a feeling 4:44 would be mentioned lol. 4:44 didn’t have the same impact that M.A.A.D City did. It was just a really good Jay Z album. I actually never even heard it being called an “instant classic” by fans or critics. I’m not saying albums you think should be classics (no offense), more like ones people KNOW are classics. Another example would be MBDTF. Widespread acclaim by everybody along with crazy impact. The feeling is just unique and EVERYBODY feels it. Also it'll be impossible for someone to recreate GKMC or MBDTF. But maybe 4:44 is just a slower burn. I just don't see it personally. It'll definitely look good in Jay's discog though
