Apr 12, 2018 Since Nice For What came out, people on twitter have been saying Drake is the most popular rapper ever. Those who have been listening to hip hop before 2010 know that that isn't true. He may not even be top 5. 50 Cent from 2003-2005 was the hottest artist period. Dude had his own sneakers, his own videogame, and so much more. Both of his first two albums went double platinum in a matter of weeks. Eminem's popularity transcended hip hop beyond measure. It doesnt need to be explained how much of a superstar he was in his prime. He was on top of the world from 2000-2003 until he passed 50 the baton I feel like Wayne was more popular than Drake in 2008, DMX was more popular from 1998-99, and Snoop is just more popular overall as he is one of the only rappers who's name is recognized around the world. These aren't as clear cut as Em and 50 but the sentiment is still the same Discuss
Apr 12, 2018 Nah. I think OP is a little too dismissive and he should probably be in the conversation, but he's not the heights of say Pac, or Snoop, or Eminem at their peaks.
Apr 12, 2018 He's in the conversation just not top 5. Probably 6th in my book if we're talking all time peaks
Apr 12, 2018 Hes been holding on to the mantle longer than anyone before but Em & 50 were a monster of their own Shout-out Tip back in 06, he felt like the biggest rapper in the world at that time too
Apr 12, 2018 Drake isn't a cultural phenomenon the likes of Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Eminem, and Tupac at their peaks
Apr 12, 2018 and yet as a collective the only one with a song bigger than hotline bling is 50 cent's in da club
Apr 12, 2018 I would argue that he definitely is, it just looks different because the way people consume music has changed. He had every single song on IYRTITL chart, including the interlude.
Apr 12, 2018 Lose Yourself is a bigger record than Hotline Bling Lollipop probably in the discussion somewhere, couldn't escape that track back in the day
Apr 12, 2018 Drake benefits by how people share and listen to music in the 2010s decade. He's interwoven in culture much like those mentioned but he hasn't smashed the boundary between music and cultural mainstay like they have imo. The music industry revolved around Eminem without streaming services. 50 Cent as someone said had video games made about him. If most Americans see a bandana the first thing they think of is Tupac.
Apr 13, 2018 One of the biggest, but I don't think he was or is bigger then Eminem was from 2000-2003. Prime Eminem took over the world. He'd be in tier 1 of popularity though (Only people alive) Tier 1: Eminem Drake Jay Kanye Snoop Tier 2: 50 Wayne T.I Nicki Minaj DMX Tier 3: Kendrick Chance Future J. Cole
