Dec 27, 2017 this album sounds so much better after listening to Revival, he really sounds like he is in true form on here.
Dec 27, 2017 d--- Em over did the R and B theme of the track but there are so many verses in those whack a--- productions that are just godly. Shady xv was whack but i been revisiting Shady Records' Southpaw soundtrack and god d--- theres so many underappreciated Em verses that our community just dont acknowledge. Maybe thats why Em is putting on weak content like Revival, its prolly cus whenever he starts puttin out some real street s--- like Speedom he doesnt get much attention from outside the underground hip hop community but when he puts half assed s--- like WoW or that Ed Sheeran track then suddenly everyone pays attention. Idk its prolly just how the game works
Dec 27, 2017 Parts of Recovery are very good - unfortunately, I always need an Advil after listening for 15 minutes from all the screaming.
Dec 27, 2017 True. I liked it at the time too, I got a lot of enjoyment out of it and it created good vibes in my head... Revival really helps lift it though. As it's such trash in comparison. I just wish Recovery puns were written properly though. Overall the album will go down as very solid, I think, but it's also hard to ignore how absurdly bad some of the writing is. Not even some, there's a BUNCH lol. s--- like the monopoly board line? That is TERRRRRRRIBLE. Like, seriously, "I'm standing on my monopoly board, that means I'm on top of my game"... There's like NO craft in that, he's just saying it lmao, it's almost like a parody, like a comedian saying a pun - mocking a rapper - he didn't even bother to find a way not to repeat ''on my'' / ''of my'' to make the phrases counteracting as opposed to repeats... like, just seriously abysmal writing. One of the true, often not mentioned standouts was the Batman pun on Wont Back Down though. The 'combat' / 'calm bat' play is cool in itself, but the fact he says about making more 'compact' punchlines, then proceeds to write a f---ing novel, all just to lead up to one tiny play of one word like that... like... the longest f---ing punchline in the world after saying how compact he is, lmaoooo I never see that mentioned. But that is a staggering lack of self-awareness. He used to be so unfuckwithable. How could he not notice that. Insane. Recovery was like the first time seeing a superhero with a black eye for me. Encore was ridiculous of course but it felt like he didn't care, which he didn't, like he was f---ing around and high, it felt lazy. But Recovery was him reallly trying, and one of the best writers ever writing such unbelievably terrible puns, which I think most average people could do better at... I couldn't/still can't believe it. But, yeah, solid album. Give it an 8.
Dec 27, 2017 For someone who hates Revival so much. I have no idea how @EminemBase gave it a 6 which is an above average rating. Your rating system is flawed. For example it should not be easy to get a 10. A solid album as you call Recovery does not warrant an 8 either more like a 6.
Dec 27, 2017 Because it's just slightly above average. But, I place quite a lot of weight on each new '1' in a score... Like, 6 is a bad album for me. I mark it slightly above average because it still has a handful of tracks and special moments - first four songs... then obviously Castle/Arose, and s--- like that rewind part and the way he wrote much of that song... It's special. More than a few moments like this put it above average. But it's still a bad album, as a whole. So it can't charter into even 'good', which is 7, great is 8, 9 amazing, 10 classic.
Dec 27, 2017 At one time, I thought Recovery didn't have much replay value (as the project in a whole). That changed when I heard Revival.
Dec 27, 2017 I don't know man. You also gave Revival an 8. Don't tell me you're already changing your mind.
Dec 27, 2017 I like Revival better than Recovery. I think his lyrics are better. I do think he's got a few hits on Recovery, but I do like Revival even more.
Dec 27, 2017 If Recovery was the first album to come out post-hiatus the hype for Eminem would have been close to 2003-level. Should have scrapped the Relapse release and put out Recovery instead.
