Apr 16, 2018 The award is given “for distinguished musical composition by an American that has had its first performance or recording in the United States during the year,” according to the Pulitzer Prize Board. Released in April, 2017, d---, has been defined by the Pulitzer committee as “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.” The TDE rapper is the first non-classical or jazz artist to win the award. Congrats to K.Dot and the TDE team!
Apr 16, 2018 this definitely reinforces dumb ideas about what rap is eligible to be considered high art, but that's not kendrick's fault.
Apr 16, 2018 i mean, a lot of people care. i care. we all should. it's like kanye tweeting "the grammys shouldn't just be me and jay in suits."
Apr 16, 2018 i mean it still wouldnt bother me bu I dont review music for a living so thats a different perspective hope u have a great day :hugs:
Apr 16, 2018 Perhaps, but TPAB touched on a lot more political issues. Award institutions and Academies tend to stay away from projects with too much political awareness or perspective.
Apr 17, 2018 Lol its kendrick worst album d--- is his best, followed by tpab. And considering d--- is still selling quite well each week, it for sure didn't come and go
Apr 17, 2018 Both d--- and TPAB deserved it, but props to kendrick for winning the award with his magnum opus
Apr 17, 2018 Well deserved...It's an amazing album and it's the first time kendrick doesn't treat his listeners as a baby with a forced concept. This is the reason why I consider d--- and s80 to be his best albums
