have some respect. you're not making a change by refusing to stand for the singer, our flag, and the country. imagine a jay-z or beyonce concert where everybody just sat down. at minimum, have respect towards another musician.

Let's not give them attention. A small minority is applauding this. They just look like assholes to most.

So singing this is a big deal for americans right?

Instead of giving jay/bey attention for disrespecting her, how did you guys feel about demi's performance? I saw that people were mostly positive!

Lol I’m not about to boycott them, but it’s a s--- thing to do. People who sit or kneel for the anthem are dumb f---s IMO. Not because they’re trying to make a point — I support that — but because they’re doing it in the most moronic way and riding on the bandwagon and making “change” in the most lazy way they can think of. Kneeling for racial injustice is the equivalent of me standing on one foot whenever I see a Facebook advert to somehow show I’m against them. Further, if you’re doing this, then you’re basically committing to do it for the rest of your life..such an arbitrary statement with no definitive determination to when that goal has been achieved.

...it’s just a half-baked movement with no action or clear statement. It’s f---ing stupid and disgraceful towards totally unrelated things.

Not standing for the anthem....is not going to change anything you are protesting in this world...kaepernick became famous...but same problems are in society...

a different perspective is if you don’t appreciate anything in a democratic country...then should have hoped to been born in Cuba or China or Russia....good luck trying to be a famous entertainer from those countries...oh ya and your black and from lower income class...jay-z/beyond dont exist without the pros of living in the USA....the opportunity may be limited and hard but they still exist...

oh ya you also need hardworking Americans, and people from other countries to buy your music, buy tickets to concerts, buy merchandise etc...in order for you to be famous+rich....again you are an entertainer...not a innovative businessmen lol

consumers are just as important...again USA are huge spenders...pros of democracy...

we all know there is cons...but look at the pros...standing for the anthem has lots of meaning...especially for people have benefited from the system and have become huge success stories...ie jay-z and Beyoncé

Standing for the national anthem doesn’t do anything either, it literally doesn’t matter either way.

true, either way it doesn’t do anything...we are just let to believe it is a sign of respect that’s all...but the meaning is interpreted by every individual in its own way

I would never personally sit for the anthem, but I don’t get the outrage against it either. If they state they aren’t protesting the military then idk why people pretend like they are. Tbh, the national anthem shouldn’t even be sung before sports games, or at least televised.

the best part about America is the fact that people can sit down if they choose to, there’s freedoms to do whatever you want. It’s always funny to me when the people that claim they’re “patriots” say things like, “it should be mandatory to stand for the anthem,” like that statement isn’t in and of itself anti-American. If we were forced to stand, we’d be no better than a dictatorship.

As far as political statements, absolutely agree. But I do think its a sign of respect/disrespect to, in this case, Demi Lovato. Because nobody seem to talk about the performance, just the fact that 'jay and bey didn't stand'. Not that its entirely their fault people wanna focus on bs like that tbf
