Apr 24, 2020 Here are some: 50 Cent fell off after The Massacre (while he will never reach GRODT level, everything post GRODT is of consistent quality) Drake doesn't have a classic (Take Care, NWTS, IYRTITL run is near perfect) Pac > Biggie (Biggie is arguably the most skilled rapper of all time, Pac isn't - even though Pac has great music and made a tremendous social impact - Biggie will always be the better rapper/musician) Lil Wayne being trash post Carter IV (while his post C4 discog is obviously weaker musically, he's become more skillful in many areas, he just needs the focus to piece it all together) Jay-Z lost the Nas beef (I don't care what you think about Ether, look at Jay-Z's career afterwards vs Nas' PS Takeover is the superior diss) discuss
Apr 24, 2020 its aged the worst out of his prime run honestly, whereas NWTS and IYRTITL have aged very well
Apr 24, 2020 The first half of IYRT is the makings of debatably his best album but the b-side is a wasteland besides Jungle and a couple others imo
Apr 24, 2020 I know this is a very unpopular opinion but Madonna is one of drake's best songs. but other than that, only weak part really is the middle with Preach Party Interlude and 6 Man
Apr 24, 2020 A lot of revisionist history and bad takes about Eminem’s old and new output - mostly driven by his irritating, rapid stanbase (which isn’t his fault) and him being overexposed (which is ...partly his fault) And yeah as charismatic as Pac was , Biggie > him
Apr 24, 2020 one of the worst takes i've seen is Eminem Show as his opus. It's inferior to MMLP in every way, and has aged kinda poorly (in 2002 he was milking about a two year old pistol whipping, twenty years later I could give a f--- about it or the songs that are a response to it)
Apr 24, 2020 I think it's how you define 'opus' - it's peak rock star Em, so maybe it's a great culmination of what has made him such a fun pop fixture. but in terms of 'art' or rap or whatever, yeah i agree. How Can One Chandra Be So Levy.... (and the fact these differing criteria determine alt Best picks shows how quietly subtly underrated he is imo. especially now.) anyway, not everything needs to be about eminem as much as i love the comfort food. what about Def Jux yaaaaa that was an underrated golden age
Apr 24, 2020 was just thinking "if someone comes in here and calls eminem 'quietly subtly underrated' i'm gonna drive to the beach and throw my computer in the ocean"
Apr 24, 2020 its counterintuitve especially given the instinctive mockery he gets from raps self appoiinted tastemakers... and given how big he is. but ya. popular rap is sooo diff from ems niche, and his aesthetic is so removed from current trends mostly that its almost like he went from being (cool initially, to) uncool (for much of his comeback) to secretly cool again. the twitter cognescenti wont agree but hey they were wrong about bernie too so fuuuuq emmm
