Sep 23, 2020 Jay is the 3rd best selling album OAT in terms of album sales and he sold a bunch of singles. He's highly skilled, has a great career, and definitely deserves to be in a top 5 DOA conversation even though he's not my personal fave. But I noticed people overseas generally don't buy into Jay the same way they do Eminem or Tupac. h---, I think Kanye, Drake, Wayne, and even 50 Cent have more stans worldwide than him. They might know who he is partly because of the Beyonce/Rihanna connection but the actual stanning of Jay-Z feels minimal outside the U.S. Even Nas(my personal GOAT) seems to get more respect, albeit Jay is much more popular. But why is that the case though?
Sep 23, 2020 Perhaps I meant to say loved. Jay doesn't seem loved or stanned by many people outside the U.S. like Em/Pac are.
Sep 23, 2020 Jay is the 4th best selling rap artist worldwide after Eminem, Drake, and Kanye. He's definitely loved and respected lol.
Sep 23, 2020 Jay pops up in more or less every top 5 discussion, I’d say he’s already there. Obviously there’s the weird crowd who think rap fell off after 1995 and anyone who’s ever made a hit is an irredeemable sellout, but that’s a minority, Jay’s been consistently successful for his whole career
Sep 23, 2020 I am sorry but OP is right. For example in my country many people know Jay for Beyonce or Rihanna and consider him just a commercial sell out rapper.
Sep 23, 2020 Yes he is. In Holland he's not considered the best rapper or top 5 either Drake, tupac, eminem are mentioned more than him lol
Sep 23, 2020 Drake and Em are the two highest selling rappers of all time and 2Pac is one of the most lauded and famous artists ever because of his untimely death (and music of course but the east/west beef is something even your mom knows about). Them being more popular than jay z doesn’t mean he’s not popular, cuz the three you mentioned are more popular than virtually every other rapper in the world lol
