Nov 15, 2017 Say what you want about Relapse & Recovery but in terms of cohesiveness they blow MMLP2 out the water...take out some of the flawed moments in both albums and your left with two very different but interesting themes which carry through a storyline which creates an album in its entirety. The MMLP2 had no real theme other than rehashing a project that could never be competed with. I feel that even though Relapse & Recovery could never touch his earlier work, it was still a progression for post hiatus Eminem. I just think that unless Revival has a theme or storyline it will just get lost and forgot about.
Nov 15, 2017 Recovery is an incredibly underrated album. People are only now starting to see how good Relapse is but Recovery is also very good album. Relapse - 9/10 Recovery- 7/10
Nov 15, 2017 people also need to stop comparing albums, am I the only one who doesn't do that? Just rate them as standalone projects as they are wtf
Nov 15, 2017 Agreed. MMLP2 had some of his best writing and rapping. But as an album - it's a---. Annoying too because "Vegas", "Psychopath Killer"... they sound in align with "Rap God", stylistically and vibe wise they also feel like "mmlp 2.0" - with the casual menace, rattling through insults and making fun of f----- up s--- in society but with a relaxed cleverness... not yelling out cheesy lines like "So Much Better"... totally at odds with that vibe. It's just one of the biggest cases of 'what could have been'. If only he didn't pick such a s-----y mix of tracks to try and please everyone.
Nov 15, 2017 What's really frightening is how he said "if theres anything you have left to say unless it makes an impact dont bother... better make sure you're packing a wallop" but then the rest of the album doesn't really do anything. No impact. There's nothing about the album that resembles MMLP and it has no central theme or atmosphere like Relapse and Recovery do.
Nov 15, 2017 yeah, MMLP 2 is all over the place but still what was MMLP about as a whole album ? Let's see. k--- You - Eminem being Slim Shady and saying the most f----- up s--- Stan - A story of an obsessed fan Who Knew - A tongue in cheek record about, how he influenced and effected the youth and s--- The Way I Am - complaining about fame and s---. Real Slim Shady - classic Slim Shady making fun of famous people Anyway you get the point, the album was basically about his life at the time. His troubles and frustration with fame, how he wanted a normal life, his relationship with Kim, his mother etc. So what did MMLP2 was about ? He had The Monster because he still hates the fame and would like to have a normal life but also wants to release music too. We got Stan 2 ( Bad Guy ) we had some songs about Kim again ( So Much Better, Stronger Than I Was ) maybe they were about another girl. We got a song about his mother and he apologized to her ( headlights) We got some Slim Shady songs like I'm Back, REmember Me (Evil Twin ) All in all, I don't really think MMLP was soo much more cohesive than MMLP 2. MMLP 2 is a great album regardless. But so is Relapse or Recovery. I just think those 2 albums are harder to sit through, one because of the accents, other because it causes headache when all those shouting, bad production combined. EDIT: btw. Relapse had half serial killer theme and also had songs like Deja Vu, Beautiful, My Mom, Old Time's Sake etc. how is that really a lot more cohesive than MMLP 2. My point is, Em's albums are too long to be about a basic concept.
Nov 15, 2017 MMLP central theme is dealing with fame and criticisms, and instead of toning down, amping up and spitting back in the face of those criticisms. Its a piece of self awareness and defiance. Stan is the story of an obessed fan, who knew deals with being blamed for societies ills despite society already being f----- up. The Real SS talks about all the clones and wannabes and idol worship of him due to the fame. k--- you and criminal are examples of hearing the critics of SSLP and doing what he was doing but to an extreme degree as a mega f--- you. Other s--- too, but i cant be f----- to type right now, but the central theme is reactionary material to fame and critics, with other theme in his persona like drugs and violence. MMLP2 is a--- cheese
Nov 15, 2017 I like MMLP2 its not like MMLP but its a very good album. Only flaw it has is that he didn't put the bonus tracks on the actual album and left in a------, Legacy, Survival. Take that s--- out and replace with all the bonus songs and we have a classic.
Nov 15, 2017 Relapse’s theme was about addiction which was touched on both tracks you mentioned - Deja Vu & My Mom. Serial killers follow a similar pattern to addicts in the sense that they repeat what they do through impulse or the need to do it. I think the majority of the album glues together well, it’s a dark theme which stems off dark storylines.
Nov 15, 2017 I remember ppl on here were killing Em after recovery dropped now u guys d--- near calling it a classic. Foh u guys don't know what u want
Nov 15, 2017 Encore is still Eminems worst album...then it would be MMLP2...Em only has two notably bad albums
Nov 15, 2017 I’ve always rated Revovery fairly well, not a classic but definitely a step in the right direction. I would be very surprised if he had anything in Revival that would match GTC
Nov 15, 2017 I’m gonna go on a limb here and say his worst album is the one you like the least and his greatest is the one you like the most. It’s your opinion, not a fact.
