Getting a raise at work is great. I went from working as a cashier making $9.50/hour to $10.25/hour. That's a big jump in my pay raise. I was making some much more money amd was happy but then I noticed so much more money was taken out of my tax. I understand as a 1st world country we need taxes to pay for roads, city jobs, etc.
But it infuriates me that part of my tax money goes to the lower class for food stamps. Now don't get me wrong, I think as a country we should have a social program like this but someone could only apply for it and be on it for a certain amount of time. For example; say the father of two dies and he was his family's only source of income. This social program would care for the mother and children for 8-12 months so she could get on her feet and figure out what she needs to do to become economically stable again. But unfortunately that is not the case. Someone could be born to a family that is on food stamps, grow up their whole life on food stamps, then when time comes for them to be an adult, they can be on food stamps too, just living off of tax payers money until they have kids of their own.
As a cashier I deal with food stamps every day and I can actually see their accounts and see how much money they get every month. This one family in particular gets $1,800 a month. So if I work 30 hours I'll make around $300 and around $50-60 of that is taken out for taxes, and some of those taxes go straight to families like this. This family buys $50 steaks, fresh Alaskan snow crab, and exspensive prime rib all the d--- time. They can because "food" stamps cover everything that you put into your body for "nutritional value" so Milk Duds, Butterfingers, and Lays BBQ chips are on there. There also is no dollar limit for certain items. Most middle class families could not afford $50 steaks for four people every month, but since food stamps doesn't require the person on them to buy the cheapest item this "lower class" family can afford to.
So not only are they abusing the h--- out our country's social system they are also buying drugs with the money they save. I know because the kids of this family go to my school and I hear them talk about how they bought 10 grams and some bars with some money thier mom gave them. Their mom had $100+ to just give them because II, andothers like me, payed for her groceries. Now don't get me wrong I use drugs, I smoke weed on a daily basis but I don't want money to be taken out of my hard earned paycheck and just spoon fed to this family so they can buy all their "food" and then spend their cash on weed and other drugs. I'm buying their groceries so they can buy their weed.
I honestly hope that this country legalizes marijuana but until then its still illegal, and its a great way to get all food stamp users off of the social program. When they go in to renew their food stamp account and they piss hot for anything they dnt have a prescription for, they do not get their money that month and the money they didn't get, it goes back into what the taxes are there for like paying for roads and city jobs. What do you guys think about this idea? @Skippy @Sign Language @Koolo @Final

Voted yes, you should have to take a drug test to get food stamps. If I have to take a test to earn my paycheck, you should have to take one in order to be given a part of it.

They should absolutely be drug tested. I only want my tax dollars to go towards people that ACTUALLY need these programs.

Subjecting entire classes of people to illegal search is both foolhardy and un-American. Florida tried to do this in 2011 and federal courts shut the testing down, citing the Constitution's prohibitions against unreasonable search.

Im with you 100 percent on this. I don't work (just 17 so i still live with my parents) but i understand that there are low lives that use this to their advantage, making everyone suffer for it. It should be more monitored and newer rules and limits enforced

Every month? Jesus Christ no lol that'd be such a waste in tax payer money which is kind of ironic because this is supposed to insure that tax payer money isn't be wasted on drugs. I think it should only be mandatory for those that apply for food stamps and have a history of drug abuse. So in order for their application to go through, they have to pass a drug test and every time they renew their certification, they have to pass a drug test. But no, I don't think every single person on food stamps should be required to take a drug test.

I once thought like this but someone brought up a great point to me for the other side of the argument.. What about the kids of those who use drugs? Should they be punished and not eat/be forced away from family because of their parents bad choices? I'm with you, it's just not that black and white imo

They should have to take multiple drug test. It infuriates me (as a pothead) that I have to take one for a job to pay for myself and others. Now with that being said I understand that some people really need and use these food stamps the right way but then there are the spoiled apples that ruin the whole bunch.

Yeah but again, not that simple. Most would prefer stay with their parents - the kids lose here.
