Where did you apply for this job? I can mix mortar using a cement mixer. Started laying block on smaller jobs for my dad, but not good enough yet to I do it for a company. Or any jobs that hire stone layers? I'm real good with laying stone.

see if you can do volunteer work somewhere, or try get some work in warehousing. hard to suggest s--- though when we dunno your skills.

but look for warehousing/labourer work. you can even try your luck on gumtree, elderly sometimes posts ads like "move my s--- for $100"

I don't know how old you are but if you're relatively young, like 21 ish or younger it'll be pretty normal to not have had a ton of work experience. If you were in school during that time or doing something productive, then the 2 year gap won't look nearly as bad.

Plus if you did a good job somewhere for 6 months and didn't get fired that'll look decent too, even if it was 2 years ago..Just apply to a bunch of places, wait a week or so and you'll probably start getting interviews.
