Feb 2, 2018 in response to: i wrote too much for this to be posted on your status @Tyler , so here's my argument as to why TPAB is superior to T&Y. nah. i disagree. recently revisited TPAB the other day and tbch its easily Kendrick's best album. lyrically its just as dense and layered as T&Y imo. i could sit down and analyze TPAB song by song it would take me days to do so each song is filled with entendres and double meanings and they arent hard to pick up on in comparison to Lupe's work (Lupe's lyrics are also fantastic but take more coding and aren't as immediate, which in my opinion is sometimes to the album's detriment). production is stunning throughout, and conceptually T&Y relies too much on the backwards theory (that Lupe himself hasn't even acknowledged) for it to be considered a better concept for an album than TPAB. TPAB also has better vocal performances from the lead rapper. Lupe is amazing, but Kendrick plays around with so many sounds and styles on TPAB. from spoken word and free jazz to boom bap to dancey beats to straight mothership funk, TPAB is just so much more creative sonically. T&Y has great production but it isn't as inventive or creative. you coul make the argument that Kendrick is just pulling from old sounds and thereore isnt being as inventive and creative but imo he takes these sounds and elevates them to a whole new level with the things he doing on this record. there's also not a single song on T&Y that has the level of emotional weight as a song like "u". not saying that every project needs an emotional song, but that song beats out any song on T&Y outside of Mural in my opinion. no slight to Lupe or T&Y, i love that album alot, but TPAB is just so much better in almost every facet. also GKMC is not as good as TPAB.
Feb 2, 2018 t&Y just sounds better to me and excites my brain more, i aint gona go into hella details. Lupe is one of my favorites and kendrick isnt though
Feb 2, 2018 you seriously sit through 9 minutes of Chopper and dont get bored around the 5 minute mark?
Feb 2, 2018 no, but its easy for me to listen to t&y in one sitting, tpab is a complete struggle every time
Feb 2, 2018 nah. its easily one of the best conscious rap albums EVER. any era. i hate the time argument btw, i find it to be totally disregarding of what actually happened in hip hop history. it seems to me like the type of argument that someone who doesnt understand the history of the art form would use
Feb 2, 2018 really? i find it one of the easiest albums to sit through. each track is great and the album has a great flow and rhythm that makes it impossible for me to want to skip any track.
Feb 2, 2018 T&Y has great production but that’s about all I remember from it other than that PIZZA MAN DONT COME ROUND HERE NO MO hook
Feb 2, 2018 nothing is objectively good though. and it actually does alot of things that some of my favorite conscious rap albums do, BETTER. conceptually and lyrically, it stands as one of the biggest crowning achievements in modern music imo. one of the few flawless albums i have ever heard.
Feb 2, 2018 T&Y is really really bad. TPAB has its problems but it's way better than that lupe album that literally uses garageband loops in one of its beats lol
Feb 2, 2018 i may have something to do with the album lyrically. Lupe is so pseudo-intellectual on T&Y lol
Feb 2, 2018 highly disagree i think that EP was garbo. Kendrick was pretty much garbage until OD and even that was mediocre at best well, that's your opinion. i can respect that.
