Nov 14, 2018 In commemoration of the unveiling of S80 3.0, I have forged an unholy alliance with @Big Cuntry , to resurrect this thread from its' long, cold and dark slumber in the murky depths of S80's forgotten HoF, for its 3rd iteration: Rate This Album v 3.0. From dusty 90's classics to lean-drenched mixtapes of the 2010's, nothing is safe. Here’s how it works, from the Big c---- himself: "Every day or two, I'll update the topic title with a new album. Everyone rates the album out of ten and writes a blurb about why they gave the album that rating. I'm not asking for an in-depth review, just a sentence or two about why you like or dislike the album. At the end of each rating period, I'll add up all the scores and post sxn80's average score for said album." Some ground rules: 1. Bold your rating so it's easier for me to see. 2. Don't rate an album if you haven't listened to it at least a few times. 3. I won't count your rating if you don't write a blurb. 4. Feel free to nominate an album you want to see rated by sectioneighty Make sure to join the usergroup @RateThisAlbum to be alerted when the thread is updated!

Life’s on the Line (Bonus) @RateThisAlbum GRODT wasn’t just a rap album, it was a moment in global pop culture history. I’m pretty sure my grandmother knows who 50 Cent is. Even though his (rap) career’s been in a downward spiral ever since, GRODT still stands as a timeless classic, one of the last great albums of the classic NY era. I give it a solid 10/10.
Nov 14, 2018 f--- yes! I was actually just thinking about reviving this for 3.0 but didn't get around to it, and @Sav Stanfield is the perfect poster to keep this updated cuz he's been on top of so many threads in the past. It's been a few years since I've heard GROT so I'ma have to relisten before I rate.
Nov 14, 2018 Also, don't forget to utilize one of 3.0's greatest features and add this thread to your reading list so you can keep up to date with discussion!
Nov 14, 2018 @RateThisAlbum I didn't get a noti for this but might be cuz I was tagged in OP—retagging just in case so sorry for the double tag!
Nov 14, 2018 Also have to relisten, great for picking this up again Sav! @Big Cuntry savs tag worked! Edit: listening now but tbh GRODT is great. In da Club is one of the most iconic rap songs of all time. This album has many other classic songs (including the amazing Eminem featured Patiently Waiting and of course p----). 50 may not be the best rapper ever but his charisma on the mic and storytelling on this album is top notch. Also have to give Dre props for the amazing production. This album is an event, and like I said before one of the most iconic rap albums ever. 8.5/10
Nov 14, 2018 10/10 This album is such a time machine, few albums ever submerge me so profoundly to a specific time period as much as GRODT. 50 sounded so hungry but had a seasoned vet's confidence (his mixtape days prepared him for this), 50 had you totally convinced he was the hottest thing to hit rap music (which, he absolutely was). So many classic tunes all over this s---, the hits don't sound out of place or weigh the whole album down--which tended to plague a lot of 2000s releases. The first 3-4 songs of this is the equivalent to the first drop in a rollercoaster, so much energy and tension just off What Up Gangsta. Monumental album in rap music, like y'all said it was an event.
Nov 14, 2018 Re-listening now, but I have a feeling it’ll be hard to give this anything less than a 9.
Nov 14, 2018 2/10 terrible album from start to finish, beats are meh 50 cent is boring his delivery is not good and that god awful song its my birthday still haunts me in my nightmares
Nov 14, 2018 9.5 I actually just relistened to this about a week or so ago. Not one track sticks out to me as an instant skip track. This was definitely one of the albums that got me heavier into rap music.
Nov 14, 2018 8/10 One of the most purely entertaining albums of the 2000s with 50 at his most charismatic. It's fun, and infectious thanks to a lot of great production and 50's inherently likable persona. It's not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination - no one ever thinks to themselves "man I really wanna listen to Poor Lil' Rich or Blood Hound right now" - but when you listen to the album it's no surprise 50 cent captured the hip-hop zeitgeist with it, and the fact that he was never able to top it shows this was something special.
Nov 14, 2018 8/10 50 was at the peak of his powers and Dre and the rest of the producers gave him exactly the platform he needed to show them off. Runs a bit too long, but holds up really well considering how of it’s time it was.
Nov 14, 2018 7.5/10 Production is outstanding, and 50 sounds hungry and is great at crafting catchy melodies. Lyrically, apart from a few notable spots, it kinda bores me though. I like gangsta rap, but I don't feel 50 did anything new with it. Still a good and enjoyable record, but I don't think it's a classic.
Nov 14, 2018 Very impactful album for the culture. At the time Shady was hot as h---. In Da Club was f---in' hot and p---- is still even playing in clubs today... Production is great, hooks were pretty good. It got one of the best Eminem features ever. Even though, I overplayed the s--- outta this album, I can still bump that s--- from front to back without skipping a song. 10/10
Nov 14, 2018 One of maybe 10 albums in my lifetime I went out and bought on the release date. I took my mom's car and drove without a license to get it...lol listening to the album was such a refreshment for me. Before I bought this though, I bought 'Guess who's back' which is just as good This was just a great time in my life, so this album means a lot to me in many ways. 9.3/10
