Is Rap Ironically becoming too Complex for its own good?

Now bare with me. I know all you hear about is how rap is being continually dumbed now from a lyricism standpoint and that might still be true.

But it dawned on me the other day that as music is evolving and changing, and artists are trying to outdo eachother and outdo the past, that maybe there is actually a more complex approach to some rap music, and that's having a negative impact overall.

Think about it, how often do you hear a song where it's straight forward lyrics with a clear point that only hinges on what's being said and how dope the rappers delivery and authenticity is? It's not just about how top notch the lyricism is, I'm not speaking on that. Just the approach to the whole process.

Every artist adds quirks to their verse now, or tries to be artistic with their delivery or abstract lyricism, that I feel like a lot of tracks kind of lose their meaning along the way.

Seems like no one can just spit a verse over a banging beat anymore. Rappers are rapping faster, or too vague and "artistic". Or with vocal effects. What happened to hip hop beats? Why forgo them? Hip hop beats would still be played on the radio in 2018. It's not that, people are just trying something different.

Maybe it's a good thing, it shows people are trying to move he genre farther and in new directions. But it used to be so easy to say "that's a dope verse" or "look what he did here", and it's honesty not anymore. Everything is vague or stylized. The meaning is always hidden under layers of distractions or up for interpretation. Even with 'rappers' rappers' like Kendrick.

Rap is becoming too complex musically and stylistically and the music is losing its meaning because of this (regardless of the quality of lyricism)

I didn't read all of it, but I love complex lyricism. Clever metaphors, entendres, etc.

The catchy stuff is cool and fun too, but all of it has a place. Hip hop has sub genres now that have been pushing the culture forward.

Yeah. It’s getting too mainstream for its own good tbh. It’s not the insider community it used to be in the 90s and even the 2000s cuz everyone likes rap now cuz it’s the most popular and has the most appeal for labels now ironically. What happened to rock is going to happen to rap. A bunch of different genres are going to splinter off into their own thing. Rappers with complex lyrics over more "hip hop" beats like cole kdot and ye will be seen as “real rap” while Migos and future and thug will be like the punk/alternative while these singer/rappers with auto tuned R&B as I like to call it such as uzi who focus on their vocals and the production n s--- will be another. That’s the direction that raps going more rn is uzis and lil xans way cuz it's "less scary" and less "real life s---" and more poppy in a sense but still has that rap feel to it which can be good or bad depending how you look at it. But rap is changing especially as it continues to dominate over the next 3 or 4 years minimum.

I'm literally just saying artists are adding quirks and being more abstract with their writing process and approach to music. It's not that hard to see why one would think that would make songs lose their meaning. It's a simple concept. You're just being ignorant for the sake of it.

Then again what do I expect u make threads about Hopsin

You still aren't making sense. Nothing you've said has a consequence of hip hop losing meaning. I disagreed and you tried to be a smart a--- with the spot on comment. The only ignorant thing in this thread is your first post that's way too long and nonsensical to even be worth giving it the time of day in the first place
