Jun 13, 2016 From wiki: A metaphor is a figure of speech that refers to something as being the same as another thing for rhetorical effect. Example: All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players or simply calling someone a piece of s--- is a metaphor. But what does Eminem think a metaphor is? From Just Lose It: "I done touched on everything, but little boys that's not a stab at Michael, that's just a metaphor" How is that a metaphor? or in You're Never Over: "Excuse the corny metaphor but they'll never catch up (ketchup) to all this energy that I've mustard" How is that a metaphor? It's a play on words, and quite frankly doesn't belong in a tribute song to his dead friend, but it's not a metaphor. He didn't call someone a ketchup and say he's a mustard. All it is those words sound alike. Knowing this, the line "forget applause, my metaphors are so complicated it takes six minutes to get applause" is questionable.
Jun 13, 2016 If this is true it would rly destroy all what was left from eminem as a rapper though He uses simple words that sound complicated but he misuses them wtf
Jun 13, 2016 It shows sometimes. Like when he says "what would make me jump in a tub with a cordless phone" Cordless phone has a few volts battery. All that would happen is he would ruin the phone. Nah, it's not that big of a deal. What's really funny is when he says "sorry another catchphrase but your baggage ain't gonna fit in my storage overhead space" is an actual metaphor. Though it's a catchphrase too, so he's not wrong there.
Jun 13, 2016 Doesn't matter...it's the connotation behind it. The average person knows that electronics + water = bad and we've been pre-conditioned that phones and bathtubs are dangerous. It doesn't matter how scientifically correct it is, the line still clicks and it's funny. Can't really speak for OP though...I have listened to these exact songs and wondered the same thing before tbh, it has bugged me for years.
Jun 13, 2016 a methapor is like a comparison that doesnt use the term "like", used to change the word into a figurative sense from the normal sense
Jun 13, 2016 Are you Eminem? If so, then good, now you know. If not, it's good you know, but no one said you don't.
Jun 13, 2016 Translation: I am a not a pedophile but I make my mark on everything. Man did Michael receive some unfair labeling, he was a GOAT god.
Jun 13, 2016 Nice attempt at being smart, If you took some time to think, you would realize that the metaphor has to do with the phrase "touched on" in this case he compares his rapping about certain topics (him touching on them) to physical molestation. Again, take some time to think, he's saying there is more ketchup than mustard (in whatever) referencing himself as the mustard and the competition as ketchup. It's a perfectly fine metaphor. Took you a whole lot longer than 6 minutes didn't it.
