I thought this was an interesting take/article in general even if I don't necessarily agree with all of it. It's semi-long, but worth it. Don't bother responding to this thread with your s-----y take on this piece if you haven't read the whole thing plz.

@Charlie Work @Papa Alpha Andy you may enjoy.

THE SAD AND LONELY LIFE OF AN EMINEM FAN IN 2018

In a lot of very real ways, Eminem’s early music helped lay the groundwork for the world we live in today. But was that necessarily a good thing?

Between this piece and the David Drake's Chief Keef piece, TheOutline is proving itself the best hub for music journalism by a long, long shot. You can really see how rushed and minor Pitchfork reviews are by comparison. I don't think they'd be getting lapped by some guy with a web cam in Connecticut if they were putting out this level of quality.

Gonna quote some of the most striking points that actually answer questions I've been stuck with:

It was a well written article but the guy is clearly stuck in the past, it’s actually kind of sad and pathetic hence I guess the title of his article. If you’ve taken absolutely nothing away from Ems catalogue from 2003-2017 then I can’t fathom why you’d still check for the dude much less write a piece about him. You are clearly married to the idea of the 28 year old bleach blond rebel, not Marshall Mathers as a growing and evolving artist.

I can name about two dozen post 2003 songs that are either definitive Em or major additions to his catalog. Suggesting that Kamikaze is the first album to contain any tracks with value in 16 years Is actually really lazy and it’s no more original than the twitter critics who could get more profound “Eminem hasnt been good since 2002” takes off in 140 characters or less.

I really liked this, but it seems strange to me that this guy goes deep on some topics that seem secondary (did I use a correct word here?), while completly ignoring some of the things that actually made the current, "not afraid, overly technical Eminem" (addiction/relapse)

But I liked his sincerity, and the description of listening to Eminem being the guilty pleasure is really accurate in my case as well lmao

Also I didn't catch that Milo thing in Normal song, I liked his take on morality of an Eminem fan. At least Eminem tries to do something with it (anti Trump statements etc), but I have a feeling that his fanbase is not all that grown up, but hey, Eminem has always been terrible example for younger audience and he is aware of it ever since My Name Is. It is strange now that he is in his 40s, but I guess he wont change it now.

i'm not sure why he's using a troll title for a thread about an article with a pretty awful clickbait title, and not expecting people to call bs.
Headlights has no value i guess, nor does Bad Guy. So Far has no value at all.

    great piece.

For me Eminem died the day Not Afraid came out. Even on Relapse (despite how bad it was) he was still an enigma, and was still able to exist in his own weird, twisted universe.

When Not Afraid (and especially Love the Way You Lie) came out it was like an entirely different person, the mystery was all gone and we were left with a boring shell intent on pandering to the lowest common denominator. the problem since then is that theres no going back, the illusions already been broken. And it was such a powerful illusion that even his old music doesn't have the same appeal as it once did.

How sensitive are you people though that you seriously worry about listening to music you enjoy in full view of the public? Ya'll on full on anxiety attack mode right now.

Is this seriously a thing here?? There are honestly people out there in this world that are so insecure that they would compromise their own musical tastes just for fear of what some other total c---- who is likely completely insignificant in you're life otherwise thinks about it.

And you guys are worried for Eminem fans 'sad and lonely existence'??? lol.

I'd take a quick look in the mirror and ask yourself a few deep questions about your existence if you would actually switch something off your stereo for fear of someone else mocking it.

I think that says more about you people than about Eminem or anyone else. I would NOT worry too much about Eminem fans if I were you. lol (unless you are one).

Also any so called Eminem fan that portrays these same behaviours should probably look more within themselves as opposed to musical conflicts as to the route of your issues here. This is bigger than 'whos your favourite rapper'. This is a serious personality deficiency and displays blatant signs of insecurity and a total and utter lack of self confidence.

Perhaps you are al a little too like your idol??

On seconds thoughts no, because at least he seems like he stands by his decisions without torturing himself internally on a daily basis.

Some of ya'll got mad life issues man forreal. Blame it on your favourite white boy of you want., but some of you need a shrink,

Eminem fan of not.... whatever you listen to, if you would actually switch the s--- because of someone else's comments then you an insecure little b---- and you care way way too much about what other people think.

Sorry to ruin your day even more.
